Every time I try to open a mag in Firefox it says I need Flash player. Have now downloaded and installed that three times and still not working. Working for anyone else with Firefox?

MeFi post: Espresso on Ice is Not Okay
Sounds to me like the barista was a bit of a dick. Suggest to the customer if you like that the icing may spoil the drink but to say "we're you're about to do is really not OK" is simply ridiculous. If I like my coffee with mustard in it I should be allowed to put mustard in it without getting shit from the staff.

MeFi post: George Carlin Dead at 71
Toledo Window Box was the first comedy record I ever bought when I was a kid and I listened to that record, along with An Evening With Wally Londo, endlessly. To this day, each time I make sandwich I think of that bit where he says (paraphrasing) "you know when you reach down into the pack of bread you always skip the first few slices. Why do we do that? It's kind of like a survival of the fittest thing (in sarcastic voice) "let MY FAMILY eat the shit bread!... [more]

MeFi post: Tiered internet use
Here in the UK, Virgin Media has just started limits. I'm on the XL service (highest) and I believe if I go over 3gb during peak times (10am - 3pm or 4pm-9pm), they lower my speed by 75% for five hours. When this happens I can still browse the net, watch youtube, etc. so it's not that big of a deal. But 5gb per month? That's just ridiculous.

MeFi post: The best Best of Best of
Best Of's are better when they come from bands in which the individual albums are not great on the whole but a few tracks from each album make one great one. In that sense, I can't consider a best of from the Beatles a great best of for the simple reason that each Beatles album was great on its own.

A band that I never wanted a full album from but still love every minute of this best of.

MeFi post: Radiohead Re/mix
Loads of bands have done this using U-MYX. However, with U-MYX the stems and software are usually given away for free with the single. Having to buy the stems separately is a bit of a rip off but having to buy them individually is an insult.

I was just reading about this last night. Bizarre casting choice and although she really does resemble him in the photos, my first thought was whether her voice would throw it off. Hard to tell in the clip as she still sounds a bit womanly. Great reviews though so I guess she pulls it off.

MeFi post: Throw the tourist from the train.
A few weeks ago I was in a NJ shopping mall and was taking pictures of my 3 year old on one of those coin operated rides. The mall was empty and my son was the only one on the rides. Within a few minutes, two security guys came over and said "for my own security" I was not allowed to take any photos. I told them I was merely snapping a few shots of my kid on the ride and asked them what the problem was but all they would say was "it was for my own security".... [more]

MeFi post: What are YOU listening to?
Interesting that you don't even need to import your music into iTunes for this to work. You just tell it which directory your music is in and it will share it.

Beelzbubba, Foldershare is not a bad way to go if you want to share music files with a few close friends. Unfortunately, it's got a one thousand file limit so if you have more songs than that, you'll need to break up your library into smaller directories. That was a breaking point for me so I'm also looking... [more]

MeFi post: Hypey Potter
I was wondering how long it would take the UK supermarkets to do to the book market what it did to the CD market. UK supermarkets, along with big box retailers in the US such as Best Buy, etc. have been undercutting specialist music stores for years by selling CDs as loss leaders. It may have been only a contributing factor to the overall devaluing of the CD (plenty of other obvious factors there) but it certainly hit the small retailers where it hurt.

MeFi post: Arrivederci Soprani
Although they say there won't be a Sopranos film sometime in the future, I think they'll want to keep that option open so I don't think they'll kill off Tony. Plus everyone seems to be expecting him to die which is probably reason enough for Chase not to go that way.

Whereas other series tend to end each season with a cliffhanger, the Sopranos never really did. Along those lines, I think all of the decimation was in the last episode and now they'll end the series... [more]

Someone on MSNBC said that if you check the the credits at the end, a few people in the diner have appeared before including a relative of Phil's and two guys who previously tried to whack Tony. Would also be curious whether the guy going into the bathroom was seen before.

Anyone have the credits so we can google the diner guys?
posted to MetaFilter by gfrobe at 7:44 AM on June 11, 2007
Just doing a little more checking and for the sake of discussion, in the final scene the guy at the bar is listed in the credits as Nikki Leotardo. He made a brief appearance in season 6 and is the nephew of Phil.

The trucker in the restaurant was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in second season. The trucker had to identify the body. And the two black guys who came in were the ones who tried to kill Tony and failed at the end of first season.... [more]

No idea if anyone's still reading, but I just rewatched the last 20 mins., and unless I misread, the guy at the counter was listed in the closing credits as "man at diner."

Yeah, apparently the credit to Nikki Leotardo (which I read somewhere before posting above) is not true but somehow spread among the various Soprano discussions on the web. Same with the rest of the guys in the bar. No grudge holders present.

MeFi post: McCartney
It's not a bad little McCartney track. It's no Band On The Run or anything but I've always had a soft spot for his simple little throwaways (although I'm sure he doesn't think of this as one).

This song actually wouldn't sound out of place on the first McCartney solo album or Ram (sounds a bit like "Ram On" with the mandolin). It's just a shame that McCartney is no longer able to reproduce that warm, laid back and unpolished sound of those early solo albums.... [more]

Will be interesting to see if the public now vote her out sooner so she can be made aware or make her the winner because they feel sorry that her father died.

I think the family could have at least delayed the funeral until she came out. James Brown wasn't buried for months.

But yeah, I agree. Priorities all out of whack if winning a stupid reality show is more important than your father's death.
