Why deleted?
Deleting your stupid, self-righteous babble is not "censorship", fool.
You don't want to do this.
It confuses even me, but I hate complaints about censorship on the internet even more than I hate the music of Yes.
Hell, it's even worse than the Moody Blues.

What do you want the moderators to do?
Nonresponsive noise often gets pruned from AskMe threads.
Frankly, I think that incomple's mistake was including the line "I'm looking for any suggestions to ensure success, or warnings about why this plan might be disastrous." That's just carte blanche for anyone to spout off their opinion, in Metafilter-speak at least.

No. ParisParamus was totally Manhattan, and not into the Jesus shit. BC has been putting out some homophobic stuff that ParisParamus (who I kinda miss) wouldn't have brooked.

Utter tripe!
What? Is this something you'd have to be U.S.-centric to understand?
An American would typically say "gone to college" or "gone to school". "Gone to university" sounds British to American ears.

Americans would generally say that they went to "a university."
I don't think they would. Consider the question:
What was your occupation in [year x]?
An American who was attending a University in year x would almost certainly answer this question with either "I was in college", "I was in school", or "I was a student". I think it would be very... [more]

Don't Mess With "Don't Mess With Texas"
The corpse in the library writes "Ooh, is this the Emily Dickinson thread?

"I hide myself within my flower,

I think you're confusing Deep in the Heart of Texas with The Yellow Rose of Texas. Yellow Rose is the Emily Dickinson song, and it doesn't have any hand claps.

The corpse in the library writes "Deep in the Heart of Texas works, too. (Heck, you can sing one of those to the tune of the other without much work.) "
No way, man. Yellow Rose, Amazing Grace, and E.D. are a line iambic tetrameter followed by a line of iambic trimeter. The first line of Deep in the Heart is a tetrameter, sure, but the second line (the refrain) has seven syllables!... [more]

LordSludge writes "BORN IN THE USA!!!"
Deeply subversive and ironic. Brilliant really, especially given its (largely uncritical) public reception. Ronald Regan was using this song--a complaint about the travails of the working class and the victimization of the American people by the military-industrial complex--at his campaign rallies. Talk about sticking it to the man.
Or are you complaining that the words are... [more]

Yeah, in fact, most modern societies have a problem with population decline, not overpopulation. Japan and the EU are in desperate need of increased birth rates if they're going to move their demographics to a place where the working population can support the retired population.
The overpopulation stuff from the 70s has been pretty thoroughly debunked, I think. Structural development is a much bigger issue than carrying capacity, it turns out. There's no real... [more]

delmoi writes "The most densely populated place in the world is Manhattan."
It really depends how you subdivide things. Here's a chart. New York City isn't even close to the densest city, of course, but Manhattan itself starts to get up there. The densest zip code in Manhattan is denser than Mumbai, Malé, or Manilla overall, but I don't know if the densest districts of those cities would beat Yorkville.... [more]

That's a bold claim. Here are a couple off-the-top-of-my-head counterarguments:

2. Large populations lead to agricultural interdependence between nation-states, discouraging conflict.... [more]

Alright one more thing. People kept typing "So it goes." in response to KV's death and that pissed me the fuck off because "so it goes" was what the Tralfamadorians said and they were fucking evil, awful motherfuckers. The kind of motherfuckers who would watch a massacre and shrug their shoulders. Why does anyone want to imitate their customs and their religion? They are supposed to be a mirror of what is wrong with human nature. Don't repeat their sayings.
