Tis the season...to shop Mefi? In this
post, MadamJuJuJive posits an idea for us to have a Shop Mefi page for the holidays. I like the idea a lot, and not just because she pimped out my soap company. I would love to buy some of the art, music, photography and other goodies that fellow Mefites are making. So, how hard would it be to make a MeFi Mall?

Doubleposts and deletions; now that MeFi is a bit of a monster, rather than a very small community, is it time to perhaps do away with the concept of doubleposts, and just let topics stand? For instance,
this post was deleted as being a double, although the comments and links inside were significantly more active and amusing than the
original, which wasn't linked by the deleter. (As an aside, if we're going to make content disappear because of doubleposts, may I request that the deleter please link to the original topic?)

I apologize two-fold, one for my unwilling absence from the scintillating minds that are my MeFi sisters and brethren...and secondly, because this may very well be the wrong arena, but darned if I know where to post AskMe follow ups...so here it is. A month or more back, I
asked for advice on taking a specific type of pictures. The advice that I was given, both online, and in one case, carried into email, was invaluable. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed. You not only made me a better photographer, but you taught me a new way to see.

double post, double post...you missed something from 2001 I would hereby like to call a moretoreum on "double post" callouts in threads when the original link was more than, lets say, 18 months ago. Not everyone has been a member since the beginning, most people don't have the time to go back and read multiple years of archives, nor is it reasonable to expect that they would. The search is wonky, we all know that. [more inside]

The first pictures from the Dallas drink and meet
are available. More are coming from Ufez Jones, who has the rest of the shout-outs on his camera. A good time was had by all, including the nice people we cajoled into taking pictures.

Meetup.com tells me that International MetaFilter Meetup day is in 19 days. I'm actually willing to leave the compound and venture forth to the Dallas meeting...who's with me? Where else are gatherings planned? Anyone have any idea how we could wirelessly do our gatherings together?

Ok, maybe I'm just an idiot...or my google fu is way off...but does anyone remember a post in the last couple of weeks that went to a satire site for a sensual surrogate love lump thing? It was a silly site, and I was going to use it in a column, but the site is now totally 404 and I'm wondering if anyone has a picture of the lump in their cache that you could send me? I would ask in the thread...but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Ok, I'll be the first to say that
this is racist, offensive, incredibly stupid, and I'm blown away that Miguel was the one to post it, especially considering what his reaction would be if the word "Jew" were substituted for "Arab". I don't think this post belongs on MeFi.

Product-
Filter! Have we been taken over by marketing droids when I wasn't looking?

I found these
two groovylittle turn based web games from the text ads here. So, I'm wondering is anyone else playing, and is there any interest in our forming a Mefi gang and wreaking chaos and terror through the world?

This thread, despite generating a huge response, is
A.) Newsfilter
B.) Racist, inflammatory, and designed as nothing more than a troll. I realize that MaddD enjoys posts that cause controversy, as evidenced by his
topic post history, but suggesting that grieving parents should be shackled to a floor because of their immigration status seems a little much.

What the dogmuffins is
up with this? I think that searching for the phrase
"fuckwit" will prove that I've never used it. Is there someway to delete comments like this, which serve no purpose except to be nasty?

Why was
this post deleted?
The big fat lie? "The classic [misconception is that] 95 percent of all dieters never lose weight, and 95 percent of those who do will not keep it off. This will be correctly attributed to the University of Pennsylvania psychiatrist Albert Stunkard, but it will go unmentioned that this statement is based on 100 patients who passed through Stunkard's obesity clinic during the Eisenhower administration."

It was a great article, well researched and interesting. I didn't get to read any of the comments that people submitted because I'm getting a "nothing to see here" message when I click on the comments link. What gives? Bingo didn't make up the title...that is the title of the article. I can't see why this topic would be deleted. Any chance that it can be restored? Was this just a mistake or intentional?
