Camera Phone pictures taken with my Pocket PC - capturing my world
More camera phones have been sold than all other types of cameras combined since the beginning of photography. What happens when you always have a camera with you? In my case, it's allowed me to get those "oh, I wish I had a camera right now" moments in life captured, even if it is in a low rez image. I've tried to improve the image quality somewhat in Photoshop, but for the most part what you see is what I got. Any comments (here or in Flickr) appreciated.

pictures of Suburban Houses
I've started taking pictures of new construction, cookie cutter suburban houses. And once you start doing that, it's hard to stop, because it keeps popping up everywhere you look. Let me know what you think.

Video made with
I made this video with a game called The Movies and edited it in Sony Vegas. The song was recorded on my computer through a Toneport UX2 using an electric guitar, microKorg, and drums and bass are courtesy of my Boss DR-202.

Microsoft AntiSpyware Program Hit by Trojan.
Microsoft's Antispyware isn't out of beta yet, and already the virus writers are on the attack. "The Bankash-A Trojan shuts down the AntiSpyware program and then logs keystrokes in hopes of stealing passwords from users. The Trojan is triggered when the user opens the malicious e-mail attachment."

What do people use to schedule meetings. I'm told it can be done with Outlook, but I hate Outlook. Is there a web site that makes this painless. I'm envisioning a calendar where people can mark the times that they can't attend a meeting so that it's easy to see when the meeting CAN be scheduled. Any help appreciated.

Kerry Concedes
President Bush won a second term from a divided and anxious nation, his promise of steady, strong wartime leadership trumping John Kerry's fresh-start approach to Iraq and joblessness. After a long, tense night of vote counting, the Democrat called Bush to concede Ohio and the presidency, The Associated Press learned.

New Yorker Filter? I've noticed a fairly steady stream of posts to New Yorker articles. Now, I love the New Yorker, but I also like other periodicals. People finally seem to have topped posting Onion articles to the front page. Perhaps an end to NY FPPs would also be nice. Or am I totally bonkers?

The onology of mumbo jumbo FPPs
You know, if it takes more than five minutes and a couple visits to the dictionary to figure out what a post is about, it's not a very effective post. Am I just an idiot? I'd say one in ten posts lately is either so esoteric or so cryptically phrased as to exclude most mefi readers from it's hidden delights.

Predictions: I just noticed the news, "White House to Let Rice Testify in Public" on AP. How long until this becomes an FPP. Doesn't it seem lately that every piece of news is getting posted? Where does one draw the line between news that should be an FPP and news that shouldn't

Computer generated singer, $200.
Vocaloid software, which is due to be released to consumers in January, allows users to cast their own (or anyone else's) songs in a disembodied but exceedingly life-like concert-quality voice.
Vocaloid will be able to "sing" whatever combination of notes and words a user feeds it. The first generation of the software will be available for $200. [NYTimes link]

"Euro Coins Could Cause Skin Disease"
Obviously Lex Luthor is behind this and wants Europeans to throw away their change so he can gather it up and be rich, Rich, RICH! (maniacal laugh).

The Myth of 800x600
Stop desigining web pages for 800x600 screen resolutions, says this interesting article. "The use of fixed-size pages is yet another example of our tendency to focus on technology rather than user behavior. The most commonly available statistics are for screen resolution, a measurement of a certain technology. More relevant, though, is the user-specified viewable browsing area."

Cool board express dead?
Although the link still takes you to their home page, I just got this e-mail: "It is therefore with great regret that we inform you that the CoolBoard Express service will be discontinued effective June 29, 2001. It was a difficult decision for us, but one that we feel is more in line with Centerwheel's primary focus of providing collaborative customer support solutions to enterprise customers." Ack!

Bush Virtual Pet Game Soars in China
"In the wake of the downed U.S. spy plane, the Chinese apparently have found a new way to ridicule President George W. Bush - a virtual pet modeled after him" [They need a Palm Pilot to mock Bush?]

Inaugural Protesters Abused
"'Agents provocateurs' . . . allegedly punched a protester and more than one allegedly fired pepper spray at close range in the faces of peaceful demonstrators." Why do I get the feeling this is going to be a long and painful 4 years? The
economy,
bankruptcy laws,
limits on abortion rights, failure to regulate
carbon dioxide; we're only a few months into this administration and already things look bad.
[and yes, I've included links to Salon stories; uh oh!]

O.J. Still in denial
He refuses to pay the $33.5 million a civil jury awarded to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1997 for his responsibility in their deaths. Good role model.

Crap, don't tell me I have to upgrade again!
IBM introduced a commercial version of the "ASCI White computer" today, which it claims is the world's most powerful supercomputer, able to process 12.3 trillion calculations per second. But can I play pacman on it?
