Okay. I asked it in a thread, and only got one...
i have a good understanding of metafilter and the whole mefi way of thinking.
I've been here for a couple years now and I'm not sure I have a handle on it.

so can I change my id to tjtheadequateduck?
seriously though, I have say that I've noticed the entitlement thing lately as well, but I can't say if it's from people who paid or not, but that is why I would suggest against it.

ok that made no sense.
try 2: because people feel entitled to a certain level of service when they pay for something, my opinion is that it may not worth it for the hassle it generates to Matt and the community to charge for accees to MetaFilter.

I love that these threads, rather than being ignored by those who disapprove, become wanking about whether or not they should exist. Espescially people posting "I'll visibly pass on this"

ashbury, I just don't see any behavior changing for good or ill for as long as these threads have popped up there's been people saying that they don't beloing here. It was the "I'm not going to play your reindeer games" attitude that kinda cracked me up.
Oh, stav and insomnyuk... thanks, I needed to get off that high horse.

However, keep it off the site. I'm doing my best to curb my arrogance; I suggest you try the same.
I call bullshit on that. I don't even read MeFi that much anymore, but anytime I do, you seem to be chiming in on what's proper. Apologizing once when you're called on being a jackass doesn't mean anything.

I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion and I admit it...
I don't mean to get off on a rant here, but... Look, I'll be honest, the only reason us (we? whatever, I'm not a grammatician) monkeys at 9622 took to other pastures is because we finally realized that our hijinx was detrimental to other mefi users.
unfortunately, I don't think that the "cult" thread phenom will ever die out completely. there will be a new group thread that certain people latch onto and continue shennanigans in. It may be an existing thread or... [more]

metrocake: this is not my beautiful house!
honestly, I think the A-listers (whoever, whatever) should feel kinda good that some (many?) current/new bloggers don't know who the hell they are. Something that they were on the ground floor of, and helped nuture has now grown to a size where they are not automatically associated with it. Let's face it, that accomplishment should feel better than any ass-kising would.
(my opnion, could be total crap)

hi, and now a theory:
ya see, the real secret is to keep your *hero* identity secret. that way your secret identity isn't secret at all, and much easier to keep people from finding out about it.
ow... I think I just blew a synapse there

you're asking *me*? has something I've written on this site made you think that I'm good at this whole insight thing?? I'm a freelance movie reviewer/tech support monkey/web designer for chrissakes. I don't have the attention span for that sort of thing.
or this some sort of "help tee-jay-three kinobi" thing? If so I'm gonna have to find some kid wearing a white belted gi and ace bandages on his legs to help me out.

No wait! I remember: if no one know about the whole superhero thing, then the secret identity isn't neccessary?
so I guess I meant that if you have superpowers, only use them for apathy.
that doesn't sound right...
