Small, but unlikely pony request: When a user creates a link to an external site, but forgets the "http://", a MeFi error page results. It would be helpful if the system scanned the links in a post and tried to detect these orphaned links.

Is there a way to view the AskMe category archives beyond a month?

I know I'm probably asking for it, but I don't understand the bile that comes with double-posts, or even posts that some people are already familiar with (even if
it's not a double-post).

How many of the 17,173 MeFi users actually use the site? Assuming the answer is not 100%, is it possible to determine if/when a user profile has been abandoned? And then offer those abandoned profiles to new users?

The DHTML popups are driving me batty, and they won't go away. More inside.

Would user-defined style sheets be possible? I'm wishing I could control the presentation of posts more than the customization tool allows (spacing, leading, etc.).

So far on MeFi today: 16 posts, 57 links (external).
Just an observation.

Why get irked over a news item that's been covered elsewhere? Were do you think the posted link links to? *Elsewhere!*

Metafilter DNS change?
I can no longer reach the site using http://metafilter.com, I have to add the 'www'.

is it sad that i mark time by other people's lives? zeldman's mother passed away a year ago, and i clearly remember that time.
i have never met him in person, but the outpouring of love that one man received made a huge impression.
do we all live vicariously through others? is it the mark of a lonely person? or does being an online community member create a new form of emotional attachment, eg, caring a surprising amount for people you have never known?

is a post that includes a link previously posted in a thread, but not on the homepage, a double-post?

We need less "geez, lighten up" and more "ok, sorry, i didn't mean to offend anyone."

What the heck is wrong with a double-post? Recently there seems to be a crusade afoot to teach the unwashed masses that a double-post is the Greatest Sin of All.

In regards to recent bandwidth issues: Why don't we (by we I mean Matt, and by Matt I mean Mr. Haughey) change the target of links in posts to "_new"?
That way we won't have to wait for the home page to reload when we hit 'back'.

Regarding the bandwidth concerns: Which uses less bandwidth?
—The occasional double post? And the obligatory flames? And the use of the search function to justify thse flames?
—Or using the search function prior to posting at all?
Please check.

a minor request: could the time on the home page be user-relative?
i have the annoying habit of taking every timestamp i see at face value, and i'm not in PST, so it creates a little hiccup in my brain.
