Clinton Obama Filter redux

I'm sorry. I (really do!) hate it when this happens, but I unfortunately feel the need to both dip into the ugliness of U.S. politicsfilter and second-guess our moderators at the same time.

This account is differently-abled?

Hey, I see we now have a "This account is disabled" flag to slap on banned users' profiles. Any other additions along these lines?

404 issue in recent comments page view

Error: File Not Found Clicking on the (xx new) section after a post gives me a 404 - but only when I'm in "Recent Comments" view. Does that make sense? I hope so.

Okay, fess up.

Who are you, with no comments, posts or anything else, but 19 favorites (and counting?)

Hmmm?

Boo. There were a lot of fairly well-thought out and witty references to MetaFilter history, past and present, in that thread before it was closed to further comments and had its middle taken out.

Not every thread here should be a linear progression from a problem to a solution. There should be some room for frivolity and banter. Without it, we lose our sense of community and shared experience.

Discuss.

MetaTalk is a discussion area for topics specific to MetaFilter itself

However, it seems like half (or more) of the MetaTalk posts lately are actually specific to AskMetafilter. (more inside)

Matt, there appears to be a coldfusion error in one of my old threads, which I found when I tried to post it as a link in the current thread on lottery winners.

Hey - if this isn't a new feature, or if I missed a memo, please tell me, but does each thread have it's own title now? I only ask because when I just thought better of posting to the "pancakes" thread and saw "Prattling On About Pancakes" up in the title bar, it startled me a wee bit, and now I see that each thread is similarly titled. New thing?

MetaFilter is mentioned in today's Boston Globe - oddly, though, it's this nine-month old thread about Provigil that is the topic, and the source of quotes (unattributed to specific users).

a group weblog with thousands of chatty members

Well, that sounds about right.

A lot of days it seems like newer members make an equal number of posts compared to all other users combined. - jonah

Frankly, there are too many things being posted now that we have all these new members ... - mathowie

Is it time to reconsider a one-post-per-week limit?

Emboldened as I am by positive reinforcement (thank you Stavros, and Sennoma), and joyous as I may be at the successful migration to the new server ( Happy Birthday, MetaFilter!), I am still saddened by the many "things are not so good at MetaFilter" discussions that seem to have been occurring recently, both here and off-premises. Although you may all count me in the "I love this place, and all who frequent her shores" category, after carefully reviewing the complaints and giving the matter due consideration, I do have two (and only two) suggestions ... Back in early April (perhaps not coincidentally, when the weather was warming up nicely), we discussed the possibility of having a first-ever New England MeFi gathering. There was some enthusiastic response, and crankyrobot, I believe, was even going to look into getting Red Sox tickets.

Within a week (again, perhaps not coincidentally, when the weather crapped out again), interest had sunk like a stone. Now that it's May, and the New Yorkers have had their little get-together, is there now any interest in reviving the topic? (The weather is nice again, and the Sox are still winning!)
