I have recently discovered that my identity was stolen. Fifteen years ago. I know the person who did it, or I did ... fifteen years ago.

Gay Gamers!
A videogame site for the rest of us. Don't miss the
top 20 gayest videogame characters of all time. (Though cross-dressing, hot tubbing-with-all-the-boys Cloud from FF7 should be in there somewhere, I'm thinking).
Possibly NSFW in a pixel-y sort of way.

Cool clip from
Rhythm + Hues studios detailing how they adapted footage of Brando from the original Superman flick for the upcoming Superman Returns.

Mom wants a bottle of Bal A Versailles perfume for Mother's Day. Can't find it in any of the local upscale stores, and it was suggested to purchase it online.

Having trouble
with that new videogame you got for Christmas?
Text-only walkthroughs don't do it for you? Then try Stuck Gamer. Video walkthroughs for a pretty good number of games. Including, thanks the Lords of Kobol,
Ninja Gaiden.

So long, and thanks for all the thrills.
This weekend, Astroworld (I refuse to prepend "Six Flags") will close its doors. Envisioned in 1968 by
Judge Roy Hofheinz (who also brought us Houstonians a
major league baseball team, and a
stadium in which they could play), the amusement park was where I spent a lot of my childhood in the 70s.
Grass roots movements to save the park have
failed, and thus it's time to say goodbye to the place that played host to one of the
best rollercoasters in the world, a ride that
scared the crap out of me, a
double ferris wheel with a twist, as well as the
Boogie Fog Disco, where I learned how to do The Hustle. All's not lost, as at least I can download the
Texas Cyclone, but I still feel a little misty-eyed for the boy who spent most of his weekends in this magical and wondrous place. Farewell.

Okay, I admit it. I have a DVD player, and I even have a TV ... that I watch! I didn't find myself buying many DVDs though, until I discovered that I could waste my money buying
TV shows on DVD, finding the ones I like usually through word of (mostly analog, sometimes digital) mouth. When deciding whether or not to Netflix and/or buy
Smallville, I came across
DVD Verdict, and I found the site's conceit--to present each review of a particular DVD as one would present evidence in a trial, then deliver a verdict--to be charming rather than annoying. Chalk it up to generally good and entertaining writing, and very in-depth DVD reviews. Oh, the site's authors like Smallville. But then their motto is "truth, justice, and the digital way"...when it's not "making the jump from heroin to digital smoother since 1999".

Sex & Games
Finally, a place that seems to discuss sexuality in videogames as an adult topic. Brand new forum/blog/branch of the
IGDA, their leadership is a) mostly female, b) commited to "The right of developers to work together to create sexually themed games free of censorship and regulation," and encouraging parental responsibility and c) a nice tonic for
Jack Thompson's hysteria.

He's been on Star Trek and Deep Space Nine, the only Treks of quality out there. He's really geeky looking, but manages to score bit parts in lots of films. He's Opie's brother. And now he's got his own variety show, something that died when Carol Burnett went off the air (or, maybe
Viva Variety). So three cheers for
The Clint Howard Show!

Whenever I insert a new disc into either my (internal) DVD drive or my (USB external) CD-burner, Windows XP Explorer refuses to refresh itself with information about the new disc: still shows the old disc's name, double-clicking brings up the content of the old disc (or tries to autorun), etc. Only thing that fixes the problem is to reboot with the new disc inserted. Why, and what's the solution?

She's
dead sleeping, Jim. With UPN's
cancellation of
Star Trek: Enterprise (nee just Enterprise), the Trek
franchise is, for the first time in 18 years, without a weekly broadcast show. While many might agree that Star Trek needs a
rest, others continue to
hope, while producer/right hand of Satan (depending on which
Trekkie you talk to)
Rick Berman says the series (which is a
billion dollar baby for Paramount/Viacom) is going to be off the airwaves for at least three years. Here's to hoping the rest is what's needed for a
phenomenon that's fueled a lot of
geeks for a lot of years.

I hate movies about/with war, or more precisely, battles that depict how horrible and bloodsoaked and gory wars are. Hate hate hate them. Watch them. Hate them.
So, having watched the extended cut of Return of the King for about the infinityinth time today, I still find myself with goosebumps and tears streaming down my face over the incredibly bittersweet glory depicted during the battle on Pelennor Fields.
Are there any other movies that depict war as
glorrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeuhhhhssssssssss (/John Colicos) that I should see?

The battle for the NFL
After
EA Games bombshell announcement that it had signed a five-year exclusive licensing deal with the
NFL, many sports games fans are wondering what will happen to their favorite franchises that don't feature
John Madden. You can bet
ESPN is hoppin' mad (and probably Microsoft as well), as are fans of its
NFL 2K series (of which I'm a proud member). Do deals like this hurt the fans or the sport ... or even the gaming industry itself? I certainly think so. Sports is about competition! Oh, no, wait it's about money. Never mind.

Is gay culture truly a
culture (per 2nd and 5b definition)? Why or why not? I've always felt ambivalent about this question--mainly due to continuity of culture via education thoughts--but have never really discussed the matter with other people.

So the banner ad turned 10 a few days ago,
according to
dabitch, but what I find more fascinating is that its first use was in connection with all those AT&T "
You Will" television commercials from the early '90s. Here, collected on one page, for your consideration, are those ads. As
Frau Farbissina would screech: "Lies.
ALL LIES!" Well, perhaps AT&T didn't lie to us about
all their predictions, but I'm still waiting for my "intelligent assistant" who'll work on those playoff tickets for me. How many predictions did they make that came true can
you find here?
