Help me get the best tattoo possible :)
Most of the folks guys I know, including my own tattoo artist, didn't necessarily plan on getting a sleeve at all, but became so pleased with the results of prior tattoos that they then went and planned a sleeve around the tattoos already there. In one instance a guy had a sleeve to cover up defects in a pre-existing tattoo. Another got so addicted to the rush of getting a tattoo that a sleeve just kind of sprang forth as a collaboration between himself and his artist.... [more]

Buying perfume online
Thanks everyone. Not being one who wears cologne, and not knowing ANYthing about what the ladies wear, your responses were very helpful. I went with socrateaser's suggestion because on the phone they were quite helpful for someone clueless like me. Thanks again! My mom will be happy AND fragrant come Mother's Day (which falls on her birthday this year) :-)

New Verizon phone four months early?
I was 45 days out when my Motorola phone, on Verizon's network, completely died. I got no "early" phone, despite asking nicely followed by threats to quit.
However, the sales rep who was so obstinate about "the rules" no longer works for Verizon Wireless. Some justice!

Recommendation for an Epic Adventure/Fantasy novel or series to read.
I'll second the Belgariad. Yes, a young adulthood fave, but I still love it ("Wolf" in my name is after one of the characters in the Belgariad). The characters are almost immediately affecting, what with their loving banter, and the story does build to an epic conclusion.
Even though it's almost exactly the same story, Edding's second 5-book work in the same world, the Mallorean, is also fun.

Microphone Recommendation for Using Skype?
I have this headset and I love it so much I would marry it. You want to have a headset rather than a microphone for voice chatting, especially if you're a gamer. Also, preferably, a cable connection. Dialup and DSL connections using Skype seem to be ... less than optimal.

How to stop being a racist?
My family's always been racist. My beloved great-grandmother got "the vapors"--sometimes to the point of fainting--when going out to eat and being seated close to black diners.
My grandparents' generation wasn't quite so bad, but the only relationships they ever had with non-white people were ones where the non-whites were, essentially, servile.
My mom and my dad freely use racial epithets and actively and overtly... [more]

Don't all schools require bathing suits?
This one time, at YMCA camp, we had to swim in the local river and moon the people on shore. The winner was the one who could bob his (this was males only, for some reason. That reason being Central Texas, methinks) buttocks the most times without coming up for air. The losers had to skinny dip the rest of the time.

Books about Roman Empire
captainscared, wikipedia's got some fairly concise information for you regarding the late Roman Republic and the beginnings of the Empire. Check it out.
For longer, but still not-completely-historical-reading, read Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome series of books, starting with this one, which begins about 75 years before the events chronicled in HBO's series, and cover the late Republic in marvelous detail, all the way up to Augustus taking power... languagehat, I'm actually finding a lot of details to be surprisingly accurate (Cato not wearing a tunic underneath his toga, for example. How many casual viewers will catch that?), so that's why this little bit of speech leaped out at me. I'm also enjoying how colorful the city of Rome is in this series. A feast for the eyes, and I think it's pretty well accepted that in this time period, at least, Rome was not all polished white marble.

Going off of geoff., I think they should totally, like, speak with bitchin' Valley Girl accents.

I sent a registered letter
In some cases, this isn't enough due diligence. ALWAYS send BOTH a copy via return-receipt-requested AND via regular mail. And state that you're doing as such in the letter itself. This avoid's the other party stating "I'm never home when the postman delivers the mail, so I can't sign the card" dodge--which will usually work in the other party's favor if you have a cantankerous judge on the case.... Transitions sunglasses any good?
I've got coke bottle type lenses, even in this day and age, and so prescription sunglasses just look weird. So I have had Transitions lenses--and the same lenses--for more than 10 years, and they work fine for me, and always have, in all kinds of lighting situations. Outdoor-to-indoor is slower than indoor-to-outdoor, but well within my tolerance.
This sounds like a YMMV situation.

And if you don't want to go tomato sauce use 2/3 cup olive oil, freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 or 2 lemons depending on how tart you like things), lots of grated fresh parmesan and some fresh rosemary, salt and (black and/or red) pepper and whirl it all together, then toss w/pasta and top with more cheeze (if you like).
