Duke Nukem Trilogy
I think DNF should be turned over to Flagship Studios for further development.
What?

The Long Island Express
My great-grandmother survived this storm only because she had typhoid fever and was located (and then stranded for some time) at a medical facility some distance from the coast and on higher ground. When telling me the story, she'd visibly start shaking. However, had this storm not happened she never would have gotten out of Galveston and met my great-grandfather, and my family would not exist.

Oh my, so many of you are mired in your secular ways and getting fat eating your mayoneggs that you obviously have never read the Patriot Act! That wasn't Jack Black--those were balls!
Mission Accomplished! Annyong!

I've seen a couple of eps of Black Books and it's also hugely funny. Wish I could find more of them. Perhaps if there were some sort of network where files were easily traded between users ... I'd definitely get in bed with Robert Redford for something like that!
Back to AD though, the humor builds with repeat viewings. Jason Bateman is--somewhat surprisingly to me since the only other thing I'd seen him in previously was Teen Wolf, Too! and always... [more]

Y'all are some impatient motherfuckers. What, did The X-Files sour all of you on this type of storytelling?
Or Alias? Twin Peaks? Jericho? The Guiding Light? What?

To Have Her Please Just One Day Wake
bicyclefish, you obviously never saw Londo and Vir singing snippets of Centauri opera to each other.
About the only thing that kept me interested in BSG's third season after the exodus from New Caprica was the music. So cheers to McCreary for that, at least.

Oooo, you simply must watch Babylon 5. The effects haven't withstood the test of time, and really the characters exist only to service the plot, and you're going to spend most of the first season (and probably the first third of the fifth season) wondering what the hell you're doing but butbutbut the characters of and the actors behind Londo and G'Kar eclipse all that and anchors a truly epic, if at times flawed, story.
Plus you get... [more]

Phoenix to land on Mars.
APOD had a cool animation of the landing featured today. The next half hour should be interesting.

The twitter feed is the best thing going on twitter right now.
Tell me about it: "Eating peanuts in mission control is a good luck tradition at JPL. Jars are being opened now! Wish I had some, too!"
gnifti: that must have been some kinda cool synchronicity.
Aaaaand separation complete! Yay!

They nailed it! Congratulations to all involved.
And DAMN those thrusters must have been powerful. The first couple thousand meters of landing just zoomed by, as soon as the thrusters kicked in, it's slowed WAYYYYYY down. Awesome.

The Great White Way?
As a gay man, may 'gaydar' says he is
Dude, do you really need your gaydar to determine that Amy's male maid of honor--who also sings Broadway tunes and has the organizational skills to get an entire cast singing and dancing without, apparently, the bride's knowledge--is gay?!?
That's not gaydar. That's just deduction.
Gaydar is that pinging sensation that goes off in your head when the guy sitting... [more]

Tales of the City
I loved the books, but the miniseries really grabbed me back in the day. I've been a fan of Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis, and Donald Moffatt ever since.
