Kitty wants to go outside!

How do I help kitty become an indoor-only kitty?

Can you describe the ruckus?

How do I create description fields for my own iPod videos, similar to those that come with videos I get from iTunes?

Buying perfume online

Mom wants a bottle of Bal A Versailles perfume for Mother's Day. Can't find it in any of the local upscale stores, and it was suggested to purchase it online.

Hear me say it here!

"Hear hear" or "here here"? What's the correct way to express this exclamation in writing?

Feline floor folly.

My kitty won't walk on the floor, and much of the ground outside.

XP won't CD or DVD!

Whenever I insert a new disc into either my (internal) DVD drive or my (USB external) CD-burner, Windows XP Explorer refuses to refresh itself with information about the new disc: still shows the old disc's name, double-clicking brings up the content of the old disc (or tries to autorun), etc. Only thing that fixes the problem is to reboot with the new disc inserted. Why, and what's the solution?

When did "the Internet" become "the internets"? Seems a fairly new phenom, but I can't seem to trace it specifically to any one thing/person/place.

I hate movies about/with war, or more precisely, battles that depict how horrible and bloodsoaked and gory wars are. Hate hate hate them. Watch them. Hate them.
So, having watched the extended cut of Return of the King for about the infinityinth time today, I still find myself with goosebumps and tears streaming down my face over the incredibly bittersweet glory depicted during the battle on Pelennor Fields.

Are there any other movies that depict war as glorrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeuhhhhssssssssss (/John Colicos) that I should see?

Is gay culture truly a culture (per 2nd and 5b definition)? Why or why not? I've always felt ambivalent about this question--mainly due to continuity of culture via education thoughts--but have never really discussed the matter with other people.

I recently inherited a looks-brand-new copy of The London Illustrated News from 1947 dedicated to the wedding of Princess Elizabeth. It's amazing; it includes a pictorial family tree tracing both Elizabeth and Philip back to Victoria, baby pictures, pictures of the crowds in Trafalgar Square, etc. What's the best way to keep this treasure as pristine as possible, while still being able to look at it from time to time?

Okay, MTV generation (which is probably most of us?) ... we all know that songs themselves can make one cry, but has a music video ever made you cry? I mean cry from sadness, not because the video was a terrible example of the concept "art".

In Windows XP Pro, is there some doodad/command line switch/whatever that will let me set a task's priority to "low" by default? I have an application that's a CPU hog, and I have to manually set its priority if I expect to do anything else while the program in question is running. If there's a way to set a default priority, I haven't been able to figure it out. Help?

Why does the shower curtain act like there's a draft at the bottom of it when I take a hot shower? I don't feel a breeze down there. This has always made me feel vaguely uneasy--cue Psycho music--and it's time to get an answer.

As a lay...very lay...student of Roman Republic and Empire, and anticipating the upcoming HBO/BBC series Rome with relish, I'm reading everything I can get my hands on about both Republic and Empire. Currently I'm reading an abridgement of The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire I just inherited. What next? [insert Latin for "more inside" here].

When I moved back to Texas, I was expecting to be eaten alive by mosquitoes, but dear GOD I had forgotten about the chiggers. I've pored over the web to find out how to avoid these tiny literal buggers and there seems to be no real good way. However, the skin around my legs right before they meet my feet is covered with tiny red welts, some of them going back to Memorial Day. HOW DO I RID MYSELF OF THEM? I'm going nuts here.

ExperienceFilter: so I'm going back to Cali (from Texas) in a couple of weeks to be in a dear friend's wedding. I'm a cheapskate, and deathly afraid to fly (though I will if I must), and have found, much to my surprise, that Amtrak offers the cheapest ($276 vs. $375 bus and $400-800 air) round-trip fare by far. However, the few people I've spoken with all semi-shudder at the thought of taking the train long-distance, mainly due to unexplained delays. What's your long train ride experience? Is it worth the cheap fare?

I've always been plagued with extremely vivid dreams, and incredibly efficient dream recall. I say plagued because I don't like these abilities. Is there anything one can do to lessen the vividity of dreams, or keep from remembering them upon awakening? [a little more inside]

I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder....

I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. As part of the ongoing diagnostic process, I was asked to take the MMPI, the results of which took a long time to return to me. Turns out that I scored 'invalid' on the test, with the implication by my doctor that I was trying to throw the results, even though I answered the sometimes insipid questions completely honestly. Now doctor and family alike are looking askance at me, and I feel a bit paranoid over where treatment options will go next due to this (I've already had some very bad reactions to alleged "low side effect" medications). Should I change doctors, re-take the test, or just let it pass?

Why do so many leaders and members of non-gay...

Why do so many leaders and members of non-gay minorities seem to refuse, if not outright stubbornly unwilling, to admit common ground between their own struggles to attain basic rights and what gay people have been and are going through? I've never been able to get an answer that, to my own ears, sounds anything but irrational, but I acknowledge my being a white male can obfuscate my point and overrule any other experience I might be able to relate as a gay person when trying to find common ground. But I don't think that's very fair, and am looking for ways to better argue that idea. Suggestions, please?

The Super Bowl is coming, I got an NFL game for my GameCube for Christmas, and I'm ready for some football! But while I know very well the rules of the game, I've never really understood the strategy and tactics, so I've never really felt like an armchair quarterback, much less a general of the field. What do all the X's and O's mean? How does the QB read the defense correctly? I'm ready to go beyond watching the game and getting down into the nitty gritty of it all. Where do I start, short of going back in time to high school junior varsity?
