I've often wished that the boyzone page there was a little more substantial, and I would encourage other people to enhance it - I think keeping it free from opinion and full of links to actual MeFi / MeTa discussions is probably the most useful use for it. I would be up for any or all three, though a recent irrational bout of fitness has sadly turned me into an early bird, so there may not be enough time for all three on a weeknight. Uh, ok, bar-wise how about something in the Polk Street neck of the woods (close to the Red Devil Lounge and smartyboots's show)? It's not really my neighborhood of expertise; I go to the Hemlock a good bit for shows but I'm not sure it's a good place for a meetup, though it might be better earlier in the evening. I think it's generally accepted etiquette here that calling out someone in a thread they didn't actually poke their heads into is dirty pool and Mutant was in the wrong for doing it. However, so is referencing a user's non-MeFi identity to score points against them (besides which Ruby on Rails disputes are this decade's emacs/vi disputes and have a similar signal / noise ratio). I suggest a walk outside in the cool night air as the best solution to this problem.

I'm game, though the date is so far off that it's kinda hard to commit. You might want to either arbitrarily pick a date so you can sidebar this post, or else wait and repost this sometime in late July or early August so folks can see it nearer to the event. And about the legacy blockquote issue, the solution that springs to mind immediately is to have the renderer produce something like <blockquote class="pancakes"> and then change the CSS for that class only.

Yeah, I do a lot of CF development in my day job and have found that the built-ins are lacking (in particular HTMLEditFormat(), which probably the most applicable thing here, is full of omissions and fail - one is better off using a regular expression, or even just using Replace() a bunch of times).

I just wanted to drop in and, apropos of nothing, declare that this SF Bike Coalition slogan bugs the hell out of me. One fewer car! FEWER! Damn you, bike advocates!

On the other hand, I think every FPP post I've ever made has at least one typo or grammar mistake in it somewhere. I used to always correct myself before I realized that that just ends up being distracting noise.

For the Loma Prieta I was in a video game arcade in Berkeley and probably a good 1/2 of the patrons just kept playing their games, blase as could be. I thought it was fun, personally, though that's undoubtedly because nobody I knew personally was hurt in the quake. I've been getting this for a while as well in XP / FF2 / Adblock Plus / Flash 9, intermittently. For what it's worth, I haven't seen it occur in Firefox 3b5 yet, though I've only been using that for a week or so.

I actually got mine just after Christmas. The hardware rules, but the Sugar UI has gradually come to foment a low level of mild hatred in me (in fairness, it's intended for kids rather than the likes of me anyways). It seems ridiculously hard to customize things, like I'd be far better off running an emulated XO if I want to develop for it. Sounds like fun! I can bring my dog, although being 1/2 black lab and 1/2 devil, she has a tendency to try to eat small (like pug / chihuahua sized) dogs, or at least kind of beat them up. (She'll be OK if I'm around though.)

I found an abstract here about MBFE. AV, I suggest keeping enough peroxynitrite around to keep the catalytic rate constant up around 3 × 10^-3.

Would it be possible for 24 hours to elapse before we started to declare the (ok, admittedly rather good) speech "historic"? And less snarkily, the old guideline that MeFi is about the links seems like a good one to apply here. FPP linking the video transcript from MSNBC? Not so good. FPP with a lot of background detail on (let's say) Obama's take on race relations, or great political speeches, or excellent and unusual analysis by a noted public figure? Better.

If the tags were put into the title="" attribute of the "XX comments" links from the front page to the FPPs themselves, they would be visible on mouse-over for most browsers (suck it, Opera), would not clutter up the front page, and would add some semantic information for Google and the like to pick up on.

I'm totally OK with features that aren't universally loved or wanted being provided by greasemonkey scripts, but I don't think that that's practical for this particular pony request. The tags themselves aren't visible anywhere on the front page, so in order to make them available to display there, such a script would need to fetch every linked page from the front page, parse them for tags, and then add the tag text to the front page HTML.
