I need a free S.M.A.R.T. drive diagnostic app that will run in my systray and poll my drive every so often and warn me if there are problems. I've found a few but nothing free. Come on, there's gotta be at least one. WinXP.

Why do download sites always take you to a "your download will begin shortly" page? Is there a technical reason for this or is it all about ad revenue? Usually there are a few ads on those pages and you have nothing better to do but look at them until the download begins.

How can I find an IT job in Europe? I have dual-citizenship, one for the US and another for Greece, but I've only been to the motherland a handful of times. What are some first steps just to get job listings? Does the fact that Greece is an EU member state give me advantages in applying for jobs in other EU member states? Should I expect a hard time because I'm also a US citizen?

Umm, what happens at the end of the
Big O anime series? Its such a great little sci-fi story that ends with an Evangelion-like mindf*ck. Does the Angel character ends up being a Megadeuce which controls reality? Was the entire show a Matrix/Dallas dreamworld?

What is being built here ? I've been tuning into this unprotected surveillance cam lately (dont ask me why) and have asked a few people but no one I know knows anything about carpentry. Some say a boat, but that seems crazy as there's no way they are getting that thing out of there when they are done.

Windows users: What's your screen resolution? Are you using clear type? Sometimes I find I cant get anything done unless I'm at 800x600 and with clear type off, but when I'm not working, coding, writing, etc I really like the higher resolution and nicer fonts. What gives?

What are some popular (both expensive and cheap) software packages for windows based multi-track recording? Also, are there any relevant and good websites/webcommunities and newsgroups? Soundcard/hardware recommendations would be nice as being limited to one input might be a drag and I really don't know how to tell the difference between a good soundcard chipset and a bad one.

Why are the first few episodes of cartoons usually the worst? Ignoring the pilot which might have had a different production team, there seems to be some magic rule that the first three episodes of any new cartoon series are going to be pretty lackluster. I’ve been watching some Futurama reruns and have noticed that there are less jokes per minute, the voices and timing are really off, and the animation in some parts is sub-par. I’ve noticed this in other series too. Is there some kind of review the production team goes through after episode three? Perhaps they don’t get to see the first couple of episodes until they are working on the fifth? Does the voice talent just ‘gel’ after a few episodes?

Do you use your equalizer? If so how and why? When playing back music I tend to raise the treble and bass extremes a bit only to find that it makes another album, or even another song by the same artist sound like crap. So then I reset everything back to zero for a while and go through the same process. Is there a "proper" way to use an equalizer?

Risks in putting a win2k drive in a new motherboard? I understand this is possible by either doing a repair/reinstall and pulling the drive out before reboot or using MS's sysprep tool, but has anyone done this? I'm assuming this is a risky operation and I should probably ghost the drive before attempting it, but if anyone has some tips or lessons of experience to share I would appreciate it.

Best videocard for my buck? I picked up Doom 3 only to find my poor geforce 3 isn't cutting the mustard. Most web reviews are outdated or deal with pricey cards. What's the best card for my dollar? Extra points if its under 100 bucks and works with the older AGP slot.

VCD headaches. I used to be able to burn VCDs (or super VCDs) that would play on multiple DVD players until recently. Its not the drive as I've tried two different ones. I'm suspecting the media. Anyone know who makes good blank CDRs nowadays? Or if there's a brand that is DVD player friendly?

How can I fix dog "red eye." Well, its worse than red eye, the dog's eyes are completely gone and are replace with two glowing orange spheres. I've read some howtos on the subject of rendering eyes using simple photoshop tools, but that really isnt going to work. Anyone here experienced in digital photo manipulation want to fix this photo for me for a modest fee? Or know where I can get this service done cheaply?
