Is Metafilter an appropriate place to
promote UFO myths? Especially from extremely
dodgy sources. I think this stuff (like the recent top ufo photos post, and other ufology junk) are something of the worst of the web, not the best. Is this what mefites want?

insomnyuk is back? Matt, tell me this is a joke.
This guy went balistic on multiple threads for days AND spammed the comment section of my own blog for days and now he's back posting to metafilter? What the hell do you have to do to get banned from here?

insomnyuk is way out of line in this thread. Its more than a little odd to find new insulting comments sent my way 30 hours since my last post in that thread. This thread has trolling and namecalling on a level that makes fark comments sound like someone's phd dissertation.

Sideblog: The mefi political compass. Umm, what the hell is this? The
whois information for politicalcompass.org is as shady as it gets. The test has a few major flaws, in my opinion, and works on a significant number of assumptions, especially in regards to historical figures. I don't know if there's an obvious slant to it like there is to the
Libertarian World's Smallest Political Quiz, but considering they won't even
let you see the code should we be displaying the results of something that could have major flaws written by some anonymous "academics" so prominently on the front page? Not to mention its polarizing and the traditional political labels often fall short of defining anything meaningful nowadays. Oh, and also the
Star Wars character I'm most like is Chewbacca.

Crazy idea: What if Matt removes the paragraph/linefeed tag from the front page and all text formatting and adds a 'first post/more inside' box to the post a link page? The front page is simply cluttered and annoying when people have a lot to say directly on the front page. Perhaps even a character limit. The less of
this the better.

Porn Bombs? I just read through that thread and it looks like "porn bombs" are a mix of regular old-fashion homecooked spam and people signing you up to adult sites and mailing lists. Today someone signed me up to 20 adults lists, both gay and straight - this guy wasn't taking any chances. Someone else I know who is "high-profile" got the same treatment today. (more)

Maybe a little notice that closed threads are closed. I keep checking to make sure I'm logged in when I run into them.

The time-outs have been getting nasty here lately. I was thinking if you removed the comments search from the search options things would pick up. I've never gotten a time out from searching just the threads, even from day 1.

Wow, at least 35 posts on Jan 16th. Is this a record breaker? I haven't seen the front page so active since around September.

Am I the only person turned off by posts which have more than two or three links in them? Usually one of the links is the actual story or the meat of the post and the rest are just links for the sake of linking. I call this disease Memepoolitus.

How about some dates for the side-bar? Instead of Monday [br] You missed a great thread, you could put in Monday 11/23 [br] You missed a great thread, fool! Fool optional.

Why is Miguel picking on Soon when only a small % of posts even say where the link is from? Why is that even important? Its usually an endless chain of I got it from this webpage, they got it from another webpage, that webpage was written by the brother of the webmaster, the webmaster sent a carrier pigeon to his brother about his new site, etc.
Webloggers don't own links, webmasters do.

24 hours vs. a day. I really don't like the 24 hour limitation, its not that I want to post twice per day, but I keep odd hours and find some really interesting stuff say in the morning that I'd like to post, but have to wait 24 actualy hours because I posted in the afternoon the previous day.

Considering how snopes happy we are, what is the policy on follow-up threads? I just read the 'penis in a bottle' was actually a penis shaped fungus.
[PIC]Would this make a double post? I can't see the benefits of putting this new info into the old thread as no one is going to read it. Shall we let them wander about in ignorance?

Can we disable all images/java from the posts? The blog is supposed to refer not broadcast. Why not just post the whole article and be done with it.
