Come fly a kite!

Sky Sails has a new take on an old idea to save on fuel for marine shipping: kite sails. The twist? No new ships required.

Help me put together the pieces...

I want to give a gift of a custom-photo jigsaw puzzle this Christmas to a puzzle fanatic, using one of her favorite pictures of her kids. A quick google gives lots of companies willing to take my money, some small, some large. Has anyone else out in AskMeLand done this? Any recommendations for a particular service? Anything I should be careful of when selecting the pictures to use?

I have a mountain of data to move from dozens of Excel spreadsheets into an Access database. The database is an existing one and sort-of documented. How do I go about doing this? I’m very comfortable with Excel, but not at all with Access---I’ve never used it before. How do I push Excel data into Access records? Are there any web resources I could use? Any books I should buy?

A first-hand view of events.

Dr. Cat v. Dog, Esq.

Doctors refuse laywers. So your last client managed to get restitution from that quack who left the clamp in her abdomen, just in time to pay for your daughter's delivery. Good luck finding an OB. Or perhaps your husband works for a law firm. Good luck with that nursing job. Maybe you're a neurosurgeon making less take-home than your insurance premiums. What are you going to say to the next ambulance chaser with migrane trouble? The war between the two solitudes could start racking up a real body-count.

I'll soon have a basement, and be able to bring at least one bike inside for the winter, so I'm wondering: do I want a trainer? If so, do I want rollers, a fan-trainer, a fluid-trainer, a mag-trainer, what? I'm not a racer, I'm just looking for an alternative to spinning classes to keep my lungs in shape.

The art of being Canadian is often making do....

The art of being Canadian is often making do. Same-sex marriage is a national hot-button issue right now. What rights should homosexual partners have? What does it mean to the church? There comes a new option in the debate: civil union, not quite marriage, but more than just shacking-up. Will this be enough to satisfy as many as possible under the circumstances?
