Major Hurricane Gustav heads for Louisiana
I'm in NO for the storm and just got back from a great French Quarter bar full of crazy locals vowing to stay and arguing vociferously about jukebox abuse. I love these people. If the city survives, I'm seriously thinking of moving here.
I was going to be forced to weather the storm in my rental car, but a random drunk girl I met at the bar hooked me up with a place to stay thru Gustav. woo hoo!

In my defense, I noticed the "connect I cut" in "Connecticut" when I was only EIGHT YEARS OLD.
Ah, but did you see that manslaughter is man's laughter? That one threw me the first time I saw it.

FFF, thanks for linking to that video. It was very moving. I also liked the way he talked about his dad. That kind of thing goes over with the bitters.

, I've getting really sick and tired of this "vindictive bitch" stereotype the media and Hillary-hangers-on are casting on older white females suggesting they all should/will vote for McCain out of spite. It's incredibly demeaning.
Maybe it's stuff like this?

I really can't believe their logic amounts to "these were just a bunch of methheads idly talking."
All you need, to understand the decision not to charge these bozos with any kind of conspiracy, is to watch a bit of this jailhouse interview with one of them.

This is what the site says now:
Hello, Everyone. My web host provider (Yahoo) shut down my web site because of high volumes of data transfer. Apparently, several folks, thousands each day, were downloading the entire music library, which is over 10 gigabytes, and that was placing a strain on their servers. My web hosting program offers Unlimited Data Transfer, but the amount of data being transfered was greater than the unlimited amount I was alotted so they... [more]

quoted for incision: your reading of this woman seems either highly influenced by fantasy or simply inept. It's reading a lot like you are having difficulty interpreting the friendly interactions with this girl as anything except sexually charged.

felix, I think a lot of women are reading his list of her behaviors, seeing nothing unusual and wondering why he jumped to the florid conclusions that he did. The fact that she reacted as she did when he asked to kiss her suggests his conclusions were indeed wrong.

Wondrous though scarabic's comment is, it only attains true greatness when you read on to Stan Chin's rejoinder.
Indeed.
As a major opponent of jokes and off topic remarks in AskMe, I don't know what to make of the fact that the comment would have been deleted nowadays. And I seriously think it's the best thing on the internet.

It was the best of times, period.
Not to be morbid or ruin the party, but a friend of mine was killed in a car crash last week and I *wish* they would take down his Facebook page. I guess that just before he died, he must have sent out a bunch of friend invites to people who don't check the site much. Because every day, he's there in my news feed "Rich and so and so are now friends." His page lists "activity" every day. It's almost unbearable. Have they come up with protocols or etiquette to deal with death... [more]

No, I get that the profiles become memorials and that's touching and so on. I was just talking about the inherant creepiness of the days right after the death, when residual "activity" makes it seem like the person is still alive and using the site. When I said I wished they would take down his profile, I didn't really mean they should take down all dead people's profiles, just that I personally found it eerie and sad.

You know, this blue/white collar digression is misplaced. The real class division in this story is the scientists who (the theory goes, whether Hatfill or Ivins or whoever) wanted to scare people straight about the anthrax danger, and the postal workers and hospital staffer who died because the stuff leaked through envelopes. No one at the networks or Capitol Hill died after all, just the guys who handled their mail.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will call FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III to appear at an oversight hearing Sept. 17, when he is likely to be asked about the strength of the government's case against Ivins.
A spokeswoman for Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), a vocal FBI critic, said he would demand more information about how authorities narrowed their search. - WP

Don't do it. The business is dying so fast there isn't time to recover from the hangover from the last layoff wake before there's another to go to. I hate to be a downer, but all it takes is reading Romenesko every morning to see the looming catastrophe. Just today I heard about a buddy in Florida who took a buyout and left a big time editing job to teach, with the accompanying giant pay cut, because he saw the writing on the wall.

Katie Couric: Harry Truman said, "A man not honorable in his marital relations is not usually honorable in any other." Some people don't feel comfortable supporting a candidate who has not remained faithful to his or her spouse. Can you understand their position?

It also makes the plot point in Ocean's 11 more poignant -- the one that got his character to move from Atlantic City to Vegas, because his doctor said he needed a drier climate.
My first thought too. That scene where he's shown sniffling with big poor me puppy dog eyes as they sign his transfer papers - it lasts about 10 seconds and has no dialogue and yet was totally memorable and hilarious. Not so hilarious anymore.... [more]

Here's the WSJ story. If possible, they missed the point even more: no mention, unless I missed it, of the smallness of the average donation and how micro-donations can add up fast. Funny, since the Journal is supposed to be more obsessed with finance than politics.
But Sean got one of those iconic WSJ engravings, so it's all good.
