The Blissful Life
last time I looked Kerry is the one with the war medals
But he threw those back at the Pentagon. Or no he didn't. Yes he did, no he didn't. They were just "ribbons". "Ribbons" and "medals" were completely interchangeable. But they're hanging on the wall of his office, and he threw medals other people gave him, or ribbons or shmibbons or medals or shmedals or whatever.
So sad.… [more]

He earned 'em, he can do what he wants with 'em. Bush didn't perform his military duties, but he has no qualms about playing dress-up in a pilot suit to court votes.
You've completely missed my point. The point again is, in other words: that he is a repeated, unrepentant liar, because he knows what he's saying is patently false. To defend his actions is to defend the indefensible: lying and dishonesty. Like a school in summertime: no class.… [more]

The Good Wife's Guide
It was cited in this interesting book as truth, and warranted further investigation.

He's on my rather lengthy list, containing both lefties and righties, whose opinion you are safer to ignore.
Nothing he's actually written is anything but refreshing and deadly accurate (save this, perhaps), with one exception: his "libertarian" stance on legalizing all currently illegal drugs, which is at best somewhat irresponsible, but admittedly in keeping with the personal responsibility aspect of the libertarian ideal.… [more]

you smarmy little goosesteppers are simply too wet behind the ears to know anything about it: my lai, anybody?
I thought better of responding to this, but then I thought again.
The parties responsible for the incident at My Lai were prosecuted. Whether or not it was justified is still in question, because the area was a Viet Cong stronghold, and the VC had no compunction about recruiting "civilians", children and… [more]

would you deny that US bombing, in Southeast Asia, during the Vietnam War killed several million civilians?
I appreciate the brevity of your question.
I would argue that the cause was just, and that the U.S. was not the aggressor in the conflict, but the defender of South Vietnam, against a well-funded, and far more murderous communist regime. I would also argue two more things. One is that the term "civilians"… [more]

We=the US. We've never won a war when acting alone. We've never successfully occupied anywhere by ourselves.
Wow. Don't tell that to Japan, or Germany, or Korea, or Haiti for starters. Exactly what war has the United States lost when acting alone, or for that matter, when acting in cooperation with other countries? Not one by my count.

The oldest dramatic form preserved in Japan is Noh theater, which attained its contemporary form at the fourteenth-century Ashikaga court.
A Noh play unfolds around the recitation and dancing of a principal and secondary figure, while a seated chorus chants a story, accentuated by solemn drum and flute music. The dramatic action is mimed in highly stylized gestures symbolizing intense emotions, which are also evoked by terse lyrical prose and dance. Standardized masks… [more]

I mean Bush lied in front of Congress during the SOTU
A lie is saying something that you know to be false. Iraq had weapons because they were used to kill lots and lots of people. The question is, where are they? Syria, among other places. Many are under the sand in Iraq. Hussein not only supported terrorists, but would not do as he promised to after Gulf war one and now he is gone. That's no mistake.

I was also kind of amazed at "Allegory of Love"; evidently the horse is a symbol of love.
That image has fascinated me too for a good while. It reminds me of James Wright's poem entitled "A Blessing". Indescribable.

CIA Warned of Attack 6 Years Before 9-11
hama7 - is it not germane?
I don't mean the content, which could be hyperlinked. I mean the giganto-cut-and-paste. It's a waste of space, and annoying to scroll past every time you do it, which is too often.
The CIA gets warnings every day which are probably too numerous to count. Some of it is pure baloney. There really is nothing that the CIA could not have envisioned, especially since they knew the towers were a target after the first bombing. Nothing new here.

Yeah, hama7, just like Hitler pointed out that Jews were conspiring against us!
It's not imagination to say that Islamists are attacking the civilized world, and have been attacking for years. Obviously.
Yet be satisfied with comparing those who point out that fact, instead of hiding their heads in the sand, to "Nazis".
posted to MetaFilter by hama7 at 5:23 AM on April 11, 2004
Which ones, exactly? A tiny minority, perhaps, although that's more linked to their political views than to the fact that they are Muslims.
Speaking of quizzes, why not take a more accurate one? A tiny minority? Political views? Where have you been?
To say things like "extremist Muslims hate us all" is an absolutely stupid generalisation of opinions, and nothing more than a classic bigoted attempt to create an us vs. them… [more]

"[E]xtremist Muslims hate us all" is not a fact, or even a justifiable opinion. It's an utter over-generalisation, but you refuse to accept this.
Who do they hate then, Santa Claus? You refuse to observe facts.

"They" don't hate anyone. Your inability to see Muslims as a collection of individuals instead of a great single-opinion mass disturbs me.
"They" are the Islamists, who do in fact hate anyone that is not them. Likewise, your inability to recognize as fact who is attacking, and has been doing so 100% of the time for the past two decades or more, is equally disturbing.
