dude, what's my dog?
The tail definitely looks like a Chow and the coloration Doberman. I'm gonna go with Chow/Dobie.

Jaded Floridians Need Not Apply
One night I was hanging at my house in Jensen Beach, FL in about 1985 and there was a loud knock on my door. Scared the hell out of me. It was my buddy, Don Terry. He didn't even call. He said "Get up and let's go watch the shuttle launch. It's going off in 10 minutes." Luckily, he had beer. We rushed out to the Jensen Beach Causeway on the Indian River. There were a lot of people waiting set up with chairs and coolers. It was a party. It was also a rare night launch.... [more]

What's the plan, aunt paduasoy?
Giant soap bubbles are great fun for young and old alike. The soap recipe is easy: 3 to 1 water to Dawn dishwashing liquid ratio. You have to use Dawn cuz other soaps aren't concentrated enough.

Compact dishwashers: any good?
This is good. Thanks for the input.
Pekala,
What dishwasher do you have? I like the top rack only option.
As far as resale, we are allowing space for a 24" whether we get the 18" or not. Apparently, there are panels that cover extra space. It's not that big a thing to swap out a dishwasher, but I'm leaning towards a 24" anyway after reading this thread.

I sent the question to Christopher Lloyd's management agency. If I hear back (which I doubt will happen) I'll let you know.

It's in the mail, phunniemee. That's quite an analysis you have provided. It is persuasive, but still not definitive.

Should I only be paying interest on land I purchased?
We did it. The idea is to get some property on a short-term (three year), interest-only loan; build on it during this time and then refinance the property or sell it. Pay off the note in full with those proceeds and, hopefully, have a bit of profit after the bills are paid.

Is fried cauliflower regional?
The Columns on St. Charles in New Orleans used to have (back in the 80s) a great 5-7, two-for-one happy hour that included a a nice little buffet. The memories from those times that stuck with me are the opulence of the room, a certain bartender, and the fried cauliflower, in no particular order.

How to best heal a facial scar?
The key thing is to keep it moist. Neosporin does this well. Do NOT let it "breathe." It's a myth that allowing a wound to breathe promotes healing.
If it dries out a scab will form. Scabs cause the worst scars. Keep it clean, coated in neo and bandaged. It will heal faster and you will find that, with time, the scar will fade and prolly won't be that noticeable.
There have been a few mefi discussions on this topic, but I don't have time now to dig them up.

Good Car Practical Joke
If a window was cracked just a little you could put some live crickets in there. They're cute , harmless, AND you can get them at any bait shop, at least in the South. Plus, they're cheap. You can get a hundred for 7 bucks. But, do bait shops in the Rockies carry crickets?... [more]

How do I learn to scream?
I simply can't. I'm a baritone/bass and don't have the register. Also, I don't think you can get that noise without belting it out. I don't think he's doing it softly and letting the mic do the work. He's screaming his ass off.

What is the closest thing that animals have to cooking?
Chimpanzees have been filmed cracking nuts. They find a piece of wood or stump with a slight depression in it, place the nut there and use a hammer stone/wood to break the nut open. Some of these pieces of wood have been shown to have been used by generations of chimps.

How can I get rid of this smell?!
There's not much you can do short of trying to locate the smell and tearing out the drywall to get at it. If it was a raccoon or possum in the wall (like my friend had) I would recommend that, but for a rat, I'm afraid have to just let it desiccate. It will fade with time. Open the windows and plan on using a lot of air fresheners or incense for the next few weeks.

Well, the most obvious answer is rum cake, which can be crazy good. Some family made them years ago and all I remember, besides how delicious they were, is that they were kept wrapped in rum-soaked cloth for week before being ready to serve.

Do NOT dilute the soup or the casserole will be too runny. Use the thick, undiluted soup straight from the can.

so much milk, so little time
You say the milk is set to expire the day you return. This means the milk should still be good. As long as it's kept cold, milk keeps for at least a few days past the expiration date. The expiration date is just the date after which it can't be legally sold. It can still be safely consumed well after the expiration date has passed.

Help me with a deep sea fishing charter.
These boats are used to dealing with people just like you who have never held a rod and reel. They will kindly guide you every step of the way.
Something I don't think has been addressed here is there are two basic types of recreational deep sea fishing: trolling and bottom fishing.
Trolling involves dragging an array of baits or lures behind the boat while it's moving. This type of fishing is characterized by long periods of inactivity to the... [more]

"Trolling involves chartering a boat and costs several hundred dollars and up, depending on how long you want to fish and how many people in your party. They provide all gear and bait."
The above sentence would have the reader believe that the people in your party provide all gear and bait. This is not the case. The sentence is poorly worded. To clarify, the boat provides the stuff.
