Music post: We Close Our Eyes
Great use of the DS10 as a musical instrument. Very well done.

Hey, thanks guys. Aye, that's what it is, except two copies = two DS's. Good job my partner has one too!

Oh, and just realised this is my second published tune using 2x DS's. Sorry about that.

Ha. Really like the synths that happen at 0:30-ish. Some great noises here.

Yeah. 100% DS-10s. The only thing is doing the fade in and out at the start and end in a wave editor, though I could have done it from the DS, it was just easier after recording. Glad you liked it. There's some wicked stuff on Youtube, though, DS-10-wise. A lot of them are covers, but they really show what can be done, even with just one copy.

Yeah, you definitely have a point.

This one was something a bit more experimental I did with only one copy.

It was done entirely with the Korg DS-10 synth app for Nintendo DS. I'm eschewing the in-built sequencer because of its limited number of permutations. Instead I record "live" using Audacity, but no after effects are applied. The whole track uses the same two synth lines, but these are manipulated one at a time with simulated KAOS pad on the touch screen using settings 2 or 3. Setting 2 moves the volume or pan of the synth line depending on the position of the stylus. On setting 3 one... [more]

Hey thanks, wastelands. I think you're right - this is probably a more refined version. I was probably doing the other one up and this one down in my head due to my familiarity with this version while having forgotten the other one existed.

Thanks for the really detailed feedback, ageispolis. Much appreciated. I do agree with you. The synth doesn't do the groove justice. At the very least, if I was doing this today, I'd do some "live" knob twiddling on the synth line to breathe variation into it. Your points make perfect sense, though.

The opening tone reminds me of the intro to UNKLE's Psyence Fiction. Wouldn't sound out of place in the Mass Effect soundtrack. I like it.

I think you're right, danb. I think I heard more sadness in it the day I uploaded it and wrote the description than I did when I made it, and listening to it now.

This is a beautiful song.

"I'm channeling some strange kind of teen pop here or something"

I can see why you say that, but the melody/chord progression, while lovely and simple, isn't predictable enough for that. It's more honest and less contrived than what I associate with teen pop.

This is good. It evokes such a strong mood that I wonder if you had something specifically in mind as inspiration. A particular toy, maybe.

Music post: Blah blah blah (cover version)
Ha! I was strongly considering dropping hints of Meatbomb's vocals here and there so maybe I'll go on and do a full on vocal remix of the original - it could be done as you suggest in an intensively cut-up way. It'd be easier if I dropped the tempo of this version, but that'd take the fun out of it. Adding tags accordingly. Cheers, guys.

Hey Meatbomb! I'm glad you like it! If you want to record vocals for it I'd love to knock up a vocal version.

Great! I was trying to work out how to incorporate the phrase as a lyric, and couldn't think how to make it fit. You came up with solution: pessimism of epic proportions! Good job.
