A father's sadness and deterioration
(((moonbird))) IMHO, it's not just the alcohol. Sensitivity *is* genetic. I can easily pick out members in my family tree who got it, myself being one of them. I'm guessing it must be twice as difficult if one is male. My dad cried every day until he was 30. He balanced out for awhile, now he is 78 and has had multiple strokes & again cries easily.
I would guess there are multiple things at play with your dad, including age, the alcoholism, and whatever health... [more]

Help me find a shirt
Seconding lalex's Brooks Brothers Women link. I have 2 shirts from them that fit well with no gapping in the front. Otherwise, I try to get a good shoulder fit, along with princess (the vertical ones) seams front and back, a minimum of 6 buttons up the front, and often labeled "slightly fitted" in catalogs.

Excitement
Travel is not required to find new things. It sounds like finding new people is your main objective. One way to do that is make a list of things that interest you. How? Do any of the following:
1. Use StumbleUpon to dig up new sites for you, whether you've heard of the category or not. Could be anything from books to astronomy to 8mm film geeks. Pick a few categories you either have not heard of, or something other than your usuals to mix it up.... [more]

Add Or Remove Programs Washed Out
I have the same problem. I can get some of the "missing" programs to show up if I sort by frequency of use (or last used, whatever it is), but it still doesn't display all of them. Curiously following thread....

Brain in 2nd Gear
Wikipedia's Night Owl entry. I remember reading an article about night owls several years ago but couldn't find an online source. The basic upshot of the article was that it's mainly brain chemistry, not just circadian related. That is to say, even if you went with your naturally preferred sleep cycle and got up at 4pm, there would still be a period of time before you felt fully alert mentally. IOW it's largely an internal hardwired thing.
You could also try Melatonin.... [more]

Hmm. what if I broke down and went with a cable above the ceiling? How do people hook up dual monitors?

We may be able to cut the distance a bit going above the ceiling as the crow flies. I paced the distance going around corners, etc.
The lcd/dvd tv combo might be a good option.
What about this vga splitter doodad and a 50 ft cable?
I would still have to check the video card to see if it supports 2 monitors, correct?

Whoops. Here's the link. It says it's an amplifier, so I'm guessing it'd boost the signal.

Need a pair of comfy & warn shoes.
Seconding the silk sock liners. I have perpetually freezing feet, and a thin pair of silk socks under my normal pair warms them up nicely.

Any reason to visit Raleigh, NC?
I agree with huplescat. That being said, here are a few suggestions I had for another friend coming to visit:
1. take in an ACC bball game at a local pub where everyone is yelling at the game.
2. check out the Cloud Chamber and After the Mona Lisa 2 onsite at the NC Museum of Art
3. go to a Carolina Rollergirls bout (high quality low brow entertainment!)
4. take in a movie at the Rialto, or a show at Carolina Theatre.
5. go... [more]

I'm in ur creditz, givin you old bad debtz
I and several other people I know have had good results following the instructions in Bud Hibbs' book (now out of print, but used copies available on Amazon), Stop It: A Consumer's Guide to Effectively Stopping Collection Agency Harassment.
Basically, he gives you the verbiage, including the specific laws collection agencies are violating in bugging you, to write them and tell them you will handle the matter with the original creditor. That will at least get the... [more]

iconomy's link looks the closest. And it could be I'm not remembering the handle shape exactly. I thought they were rounder, but these guys are pretty close.
Definitely not a planer or anything with a wire or rolly thing.

How to dress a not-thin man
Another option might be to have your clothes made for you based on your measurements. My Custom Tailor has made shirts for me that are no expensive than ones I'd previously bought at the boutique up the street. If you're willing to wait a couple of weeks for something that fits, that is.

Kitty Konundrum
nth-ing the get two, get males, and spend some time at the shelter suggestions.
We have a male and a female, and the female is neurotic and a pain in the ass more of the time than not. I've also heard other cat owners say their male cats are more social and laid back than females. We have garden variety rescued/fixed tabbies (one striped, one mackerel), both short haired. They are wonderful companions and low maintenance if we decide to go somewhere for a day or two. Good luck!

How to make an informational cd to sell?
Arch1, what is a ballpark price for such a service? Also, did the development company also market your product, or did you go elsewhere? We already have a print-on-demand in mind, but if we can kill 2 birds, etc etc.

Going with the local website on the cd-rom, do we need to tell it somehow to autorun in the user's browser, or is that a local setting over which we have no control? I dont' want to hijack their machine, but I'd like it to run on its own as much as possible.

Thanks so much everybody! I hadn't thought about teh PDF approach, but I will now. I've made lots of websites, so I was leaning that way, but I'll peek at the PDF route before I jump.
Yes - we were going with lulu - I know a couple of people there, and they are also just down the road if I need to pick their brain in person. Again, thank you!!
