NASCAR and Earth

Why are "NASCAR", "peak oil", "global warming" and "gas prices" never mentioned in the same sentence? Are there statistics on how much gas / oil / petroleum products that are used for a typical race? What about practice races?

Domain-tor? [realtor + domain]

Is there such a thing as a domain name agent? Like a real estate agent, but for .com (or other) domains instead of chunks of land?

Earth's water vs land volume (shown in spheres) image?

ISO: Photo-like diagram of the ratio of total volume of water to total volume of land on Earth. NOT the surface area - the TOTAL respective volumes of the planet.

Wireless Monitor: does it exist?

HowTo Filter: add a second monitor that is wireless? I found this device, but the post is a year old and I was hoping for a solution that doesn't cost as much. this is even older and more expensive. There is also this, from DisplayLink, but I don't understand how it works - it is actually wireless? It looks like the monitors they make have a sub chip built in, but I don't get how it all connects back to the pc.

Cheese knives? Blades? Cleavers? Slicers?

Cheese knives? Blades? Cleavers? Slicers? Cutters? We had dinner at some friends' the other week. They had these cool cheese cutting tools that were a cross between a flat blade like you apply spackle with, and a nubby handle like on a short screwdriver. They were only about 3" or 4" from cutting edge to tip of handle.

Do black earrings exist?

In search of simple black earrings (pierced). They can be small hoops, studs or wires. Not necessarily onyx or obsidian - could be rubber, for all I care, but definitely not pearls. I'd like something kind of like just the hoop part on these. If combined with metal, preferred color is silver.

Teambuilding industry statistics?

Team building industry statistics: how would I go about finding these? I'm looking for typicals like how much is spent, who spends it, what types of activities (lasertag, brainstorming) and how the numbers may have changed since 1990 - in the US, mainly, but elsewhere is also appreciated, as well as any other search terminology.

Need a free interactive virtual whiteboard

Online interactive whiteboards. Are there any alternatives to GE's imagination3.com (can't move things around, you have to erase the whole thing and start over), groupboard (I'm looking for a free one, not a demo that expires) or sharing a desktop and using powerpoint? What about FF extensions? Open source?

yellow pills animation

Animation search: I'm looking for a short cartoon (possibly mid 90's when it was made) with a chronically wheezing guy who goes to the doctor for yellow pills. He travels in thick smog, which turns out is coming from the factory making the yellow pills. It's in color, but I don't think there is any speech. That's all I got, sorry. :/

Alternatives to Toastmasters?

Are there any alternatives to Toastmasters for public speaking practice clubs? I've been to a few local meetings to see what they're like and the style is just too regimented for me.

ordering flowering cactus or flowers online

Looking for recommendations on ordering a flowering cactus or some flowers online for someone recuperating from surgery. I'm trying to stay under $60 if possible. The person is in Baldwinsville NY, which I believe is in the Syracuse (?) area. I'd like to place an order this evening.

Parade costume building.

I want to build a long giant centipede costume for a parade, but am having trouble finding 'how-to' links. I've found lots of parade pictures & sites, but few costume/float building resources. I've gone back & forth between building it segment by segment, to building one long strip that can collapse for storage. I think I've settled on the one long piece. Know of any cheap sources for flexible tent poles sans the tent? Ideas? Links?

Corner grocer?

Do you have a corner grocer where you live? A market to pick up fresh veggies, meats or cheeses, or maybe a bottle of wine for that evening's dinner, that you can walk to? Apparently grocers make very little money, so the bigger the store, the lower delivery costs, etc. So why not have several small stores in one area to concentrate delivery? Or go with smaller trucks? Or partner with local farmers? Sort of like CSA for a city dweller.

Efficient computer tools: what would you put on the list?

What tools do you use to be efficient while working on a computer, be it online or not? Things like del.icio.us, dropload, winzip, phpbboards, group blogs/wikis, etc. Are there any books for general fine tuning of already computer-familiar users? What about seminars?

Power supply going? My desktop makes noises that sound like the fan speeds up then slows down. Sometimes as often as 3 times in a minute. I tried switching wall outlets, still with the same surge protector, though. Nothing else plugged in to that surge protector seems to waiver. The desktop is about 2.5 years old, used all day everyday. Is it the power supply? and if so, how difficult is replacing it, and would I have to re install a bunch of shit?

Psychology/Sociology Q [I think?] Does anyone...

Psychology/Sociology Q [I think?] Does anyone else experience participatory inhibition when immersed in a like minded group? For example, a creative person becoming unusually shy/quiet within a team of creative people working on a [design] task? Lurkers on MeFi or other online communities might be another example. Or, the opposite: a creative person's creativity amplified [uninhibited?] in the presence of less creative people?

Is it a matter of personality/psychology? Is it confidence/self assuredness? Is it alterable? Imaginary?!

Sources for further reading and help clarifying the question appreciated.

Win XP pword issue. I'm locked out of my laptop. I don't use it often, and the password expired - it was set to 30 days. Being an idiot, I didn't make written note of the admin password anywhere. Multiple guesses have so far yielded me nothing. I found this site but haven't tried it yet, since I have no access to the Win 2000 cd.

Anyone know how to get in w/o losing all my data and reformatting/re-imaging the thing?

One for the helpdesk [hopedesk!] folks: when one is referred to as "starfish", is it a reference to being a butthole, or does it mean one is so low on the food chain they have no brain (like arms + legs + head = 5 appendages)? Neither?
