I love factoryjoe's galleries but concur that they aren't really patterns in the Alexander => Gang of Four / ward's wiki => Tidwell lineage of the term.

Of course they are patterns in the ordinary sense, but I see some value in preserving the context (when to use), problem, solution core pattern format.

This is the crux of the problem for all Washington Democrats. They think people like Kondracke are their friends. They think they are in with the in-crowd.

Is it any wonder why Gephardt and Kerry are having trouble inspiring the people in their own party?

What I want to know is what are the mythic traditions about Canopus? In Doris Lessings Shikasta series, the lesser advanced race influencing Earth (Shikasta) is from Sirius, but the superadvanced race is from Canopus. She implies in a forward that both of these stars feature in lots of early human myths. Those weird populist Republicrats, always playing the victim card. I thought he sounded defensive and sophistic. When he called her "lady" it was ridiculous. Of course he cherrypicked (the Peabody thing, and parsing "we" vs. "I" like a Clinton or Novak - while ignoring the dead-to-rights facts about, say, his political affiliation). The man is an insufferable toad, but I do look forward to reading his book, "Living with Herpes."

The anger image, protest-candidate, being-against-Bush-more-than-for-something-else images are all worrisome if they stick to Dean. The idea that "his values were impeccable to the left" is simply uninformed (the most obvious example is his gun-control position but I've tabled for Dean in Oakland and lefties come by and accuse Dean of being a Republican, fwiw).

good call on the "olde english." to hit deadheads over the head with ramones-purism is ludicrous by now. the ramones rawk, but nostalgia is nostalgia. ever listen to "acid eaters"? i saw television last week and i'm going to see camper van beethoven at the end of this month and i am totally aware that these are exercises in nostalgia. as is my listening to the minutement, etc.
