Ask post: What CD do you currently love.
Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below by Outkast are the CDs that convinced me the hip-hop still has places to go. Been listening to them over and over for years now.

Thanks for all the suggestions. For the record, I think it's called Fasica in Columbia City. Anybody want to offer any more suggestions?

Thank you all.My friend and I got the chicken doro wat and this sampler option. Absolutely delicious. Certainly not the last time we go there. We actually almost finished it too (supposedly for 4 people, but they don't know how college students eat). Honey wine was awesome too. Music - awesome. decor - awesome. Just a great experience and a great restaurant. It was called Awash ( i think it used to be called Fasica) in Columbia City on Edmunds St. Check it out.

Ask post: What rap should I listen to?
You might want to check out www.boombasticradio.com - They're always playing something good, 24/7...Always. They sometimes lean towards the obscure but that's not a problem at all considering the quality of music they play.

Ask post: and If theres something wrong with the monitor,...
Everyone who has looked at my laptop screen in the last 2 weeks has said that the entire left half of the screen is tinted dark red. I thought it was a massive practical joke for a while, but people assure me it's not. I literally cannot see it at all. The screen looks uniformly normal to me and there is no tint of any kind of the left side. I totally sure I know what red looks like and I can tell it about from green and brown and whatnot, but I cannot see anything on my screen like whats being... [more]

I just watched The Big One, one of Michael Moore's older movies and there's this really great song featuring a guitar played at the very end of the credits, just after "I've been everywhere" by Johnny Cash. In the closing credits, it lists a bunch of songs by The World Famous Blue Jays as being played. The last one is titled "Surfin' with Jay," which could be the song I'm looking for. Can anyone verify this? Can anyone tell me where I can get this song?

Does anyone know where I can find English translations of the novels by Wang Du Lu that the film is based on. Amazon.com has these embarassingly bad graphic novels based on the books, but that does NOT cut it. Must I learn the Chinese written word to enjoy these books?

Thanks. I always halfway suspected it was a rumor to scare college students, considering i saw it on some strange website that i can't find anymore. Really quickly, can anyone suggest something to do in Vancouver or Burnaby or Richmond for very cheap this weekend?

Ask post: Thanks a...
I've been thinking about playing in a few tournaments locally and I've joined the USTA PNW (i'm in Seattle) division and I'm looking to get started. Firstly, I'm confused about what NTRP is as opposed to "Open" tournaments. I know I'm a little old for junior tournaments, but I don't wanna show up at a tournament where everyone else is near-pro. Secondly, why aren't there any tournaments in Seattle? Am I looking in the wrong places? What is it about Vancouver, WA that's more appealing... [more]

MeFi post: Emotional Labour
I recently got hired in Bellingham, WA working for the Campus Democrats (btw, I am going to be voting for Kerry, but not happy about it at all). We call people around the country asking for donations for this large scale voter registration drive on college campuses in swing states across the United States.

I've worked at other jobs that are much more physically demanding, and part of me feels like I shouldn't complain, but this job is bullshit on a new level for me... [more]

Thank goodness. I was beginning to wonder where all the Anime was. Ninja Scroll really fits your bill very well, but you might also want to check out Akira and Ghost in the Shell (but only if you want to spend a lot of time afterwards trying to figure out what you just saw.) Much more straightforward are Anime like: Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Metropolis and Read or Die (Yes, Read or Die). But then again, you may hate Anime...I like it 'cause they can pretty much get away with anything.... [more]

Tax holidays (between 4 – 8 years)

It's amazing how many sources I've looked at tell, for instance, the story of World War II starting on December 7, 1941. I'm sure stuff was happening before Pearl Harbor. I'm looking for something more objective and with more details (Japanese Internment camps are often left out too, what's up with that?). But I'd like it to be like 30 pages and not too dry either. Am I asking for too much? (My examples were from WWII, but I'm looking for everything: Boer War, Crimean War, Persian Gulf, all of... [more]

Ask post: Yeah, I'm not too sure I got it either, grrarrgh,...
I read something by Samuel Delany in the Dark Matter anthology. I liked it. Also, I didn't mean to imply that he only wants to read books about the black and gay experience, but that happens to be a perspective I'm know he relates to and wants to find more about and books about it are really not that numerous. I certainly wouldn't say there's anything limiting about it, but thanks to everyone who's posted so far. anyone else?

I recently started watching the DVDs of the show, though I, like most people seem to have no idea if i'm watching them in order or not. Anyway, can someone explain to me the big white bouncing ball. How did they do that special effect and why are all the characters so incapacitated by it? Second, why is there a different #2 every episode? Is that just intended to keep #6 off-balance or did i miss something?
posted to Ask Metafilter by Slimemonster at 4:22 PM on May 7, 2004
I thought there is still quite a big debate about the episode order. I've seen TvTome's order, but the episode order on the DVDs is different and different again on other episode lists. It seems that some were filmed in a different order than they were broadcast, so that people have a bit of an option of the way that they want to have them ordered.

I'm not sure if it counts, but don't forget Star Trek 8 (First Contact). It's the only time the term "Star Trek" is used in any of the movies and probably any of the tv series but i've never really seen any of those. "First Contact" is also said a couple times but the term Star Trek: First Contact is never uttered at once.
