Fake news is dead! Long live fake news!
It's possible that Comedy Central--like CBS--are trying to work out a seperate deal with their writers. Or, since they are both owned by Viacom, one overarching deal for the two. Since the AMPTP is proving so intractable, one wonders if this is how the strike will be resolved, or not: individual production companies will either strike seperate deals, or transform themselves into writer-less entities.
In any event, it's my fervent hope that none of these shows return to... [more]

Only in Brooklyn.
So just because a guy throws a wet glove out the window means he was peeing in it? Silliest part: the author purports to explain "why Brooklyn smells like piss" when he can discern no odor from the discarded item.

also, let's be clear about the price:
it serves 8-10 people. assume 8 people eat it, the damn thing only costs a little over $5 per.
Baloney. Come on. Peanut butter, jelly, bacon, white bread, and margarine? I don't care how many people it serves, and I think "8-10" is a clear exaggeration to make the "one if you're Elvis" stand out more. Either this story is phony or the King got ripped the fuck off.

flapjax, i bet we made sure our puppet govts there didn't sign on to the Hague thing, like we didn't--it's disgusting.
Yeah, it's "disgusting" that we didn't abdicate our judicial sovereignty to a bunch of yahoos in the Netherlands. When exactly did "The Hague" become the be-all end-all of justice in this world? Does anybody believe that Saddam isn't guilty of what he's been accused of? If you don't personally support the death... [more]

I think Sorkin hated net chatter about him and his show back in West Wing days ... he can't be enjoying all the talk about S60.

Empath, McCain is no decent Republican. I don't think he's even a decent human being.
He's sucking at the teat of Falwell and Robertson quite thirstily these days.
He wants a chance at the presidency in 2008. He can't win the nomination without appealing to the Republican base. I was more disappointed by his Kerry pile-on--surely he knows better--but you gotta do what you gotta do. "Pandering" aside he's still a more... [more]

Polling shows that 'atheist' ranks just below 'muslim' as far as 'tolerable son-in-law' goes.
That's a strange metric to go by. I wouldn't want by "son-in-law" (were I to ever have one) to be atheist either, but that's because interfaith marriages face enormous difficulty. I'm as Christian as they come, but I'd gladly vote for a competent, qualified, atheist candidate--if he or she could convince me of his or her respect for my faith. But on... [more]

LOL. Such a delicate flower you are. When 60% of this country reject the evolution of man, votes as the 2nd-strongest deme for Bush in 2004 (72%), wouldn't you say most of the "religious people" in this country are indeed "big fat dummies"?
No, in fact, I wouldn't. Your pompous attitude exactly personifies the problem.

A backdoor plan to thwart the electoral college
I don't know about this plan in particular but I like the direction of the discourse. The popular vote has never been what really elects a president, so instead of viewing the electoral college as a stumbling block, why not find a way to make it more meaningful? The article mentions that Democrat electors won't be too keen to cast their vote for a Republican, or vice versa. Could such a move as this actually change the way we choose those electors? Can you imagine a group of learned men and... [more]

But this is not so. A memoir is not fiction. A memoir is someone telling you a story of their life, and the honesty implicit in both listening to and telling such stories is critically important. There is an element of trust in reading a memoir, and it is a violation of this trust to do what Frey has (apparently) done.
And the fact that the book has come to mean so much for so many people, and the fact that the book presented such strong opinions on emotional... [more]

the geeks at Joystiq sent in some possible [Nintendo DS] redesigns, many of which seem completely plausible.
I don't think any of those look particularly plausible. Many of them posit highly unlikely design upgrades (larger screens and analog controls) and others leave the top screen precipitously exposed. Overall I'd say only the first looks reasonable: a DS on a diet with a healthy dose of that oh-so-fashionable Apple style mixed in. I think Nintendo... [more]

If you want to compare generic Logitech pads and cheap RAM to the seamless 360 controller and its GDDR3 memory, you could certainly build a less expensive box, but that's thoroughly disingenous.
About as disingenous, in fact, as suggesting you can buy anywhere near the functionality of what's being suggested here for $200. The Earthlink Mailstation I referred to retailed for $200 in 2002 and it was a steaming turd. The absolutely least you can pay for a media center PC... [more]
