Just a style suggestion for links that include...
Here's a better suggestion: give your links actual, descriptive anchors so people know what they fuck they're (trying) to click on. This cutesy every word or letter a link shit is incredibly obnoxious.

Shut the hell up scarabic. Boy howdy there are a ton of frustrated moderators around here. What the sam heck is the point of deleting a two month old archived thread?

every self-deluded idiot is going to continue to try to hit that mathowie-1%, and it'll NEVER. FUCKING. END.
Will it end anyway? You're talking about flagrant rule-breakers. I'd wager on self-important MetaTalk whiners finally stuffing a sock in it long before I'd wager on a 100% guarantee stopping self-linkers.

Who cares? Best is in the eye of the poster. Let them mark as many as they want to. What exactly is the problem? Do you people just go around looking for things to bitch about?

What motivates people to post FPP:s to MeFi?...
Unfortunately, it seems to be ego, for the most part. Huge, throbbing, pulsating, disgusting, politically-motivated, axe-grinding ego.
And then there are the good posts; more like "holy shit, check out this thing I just found."
I usually find those neat things by coming here, so I'm still waiting on that elusive first post.

I think it means you have "open links in new window" enabled in Metafilter personal settings.
On-site links don't usually open in a new window with this setting. I think it's a bug, albeit a minor one.

Or you could read the thread he linked to, and stop guessing.
That is to say, one that it would be nice to see fixed. You know, just in case someone besides you reads this.

I agree wholeheartedly that underdescribed posts suck. I want to know whether or not I want to click the link before I click the link.

Ask MetaFilter is as useful as you make it. Please...
When AskMe first started, I asked two unpopular questions. One was, "Why do working class people spit?" The other was, "Why do black people talk to themselves?" These were honest questions. I'm not working class. I'm not black. I don't spit. I don't talk to myself. Maybe MOST working class people don't spit. Maybe MOST black people don't talk to themselves. But the working class & black people that I meet DO. So I wondered.... [more]

How fucking retarded do you have to be to see a person of a particular race or class or status take a particular action and assume it's generalized to every member? What year is this again?

In my opinion justgary, anybody who is absolutely, positively convinced that amberglow was physically threatening peepee is projecting their own violent tendencies. I mean c'mon, amberglow is going to beat up peepee? Ha!

Give me a break. What were you expecting exactly? An outpouring of bleeding-heart sympathy for two random losers who didn't get to see a movie? The post was awful and got exactly what it deserved as far as I can see.

Aaaaaaaaand then there's the HOSTILITY and SUSPICION with which every filthy five-dollah newb is regarded! Boy howdy, that sure makes me want to get my feet wet. I honestly feel like anything I post in the blue will be met with a "Who the fuck are you?" attitude by a certain MeFi contingent.

How is transparently couching the post in the form of a question posting it to the gray any better?
Well, this way, there's just the one MetaTalk thread full of whiny pedants instead of one MetaFilter thread full of whiny pedants and a MetaTalk thread full of whiny pedants.

I've seen much harder core flamefests between mefi brethern than this.
be that as it may, is "that's a stupid thing to say and you're a stupid person for saying it" really the level of discourse we're aiming for here? coupled with the constant "french" remarks (look, i like to make fun of the french as much as anyone, but this is just pathological) and the conflation of disagreement with "depravity," that thread really unnerves me.
