Lifetime, wow!
My girlfriend (who is a hardcore Lifetime fiend) and I play a game called "Green Light" where we have to cast, plot and name a Lifetime movie. Actors cannot be too A or B list and everyone playing has to agree before the game is won.

RIP Travis N. Twiggs, USMC PTSD Sufferer
This is why I support a return of the draft. We'd sort our real quick where we're going to fight and the reasons for doing so if it effected more of us.
Those that serve seem increasingly cut off front the very society they protect. If a military and necessary for protecting our freedoms, then all of us should be willing (if able) to go do so.
I think the powers that be will cynically exploit our servicemen and women as long as they remain on the fringes.

We're widespread and well fed,
The earth's rotating fate is in our head, oh yeah.
We're dominant and prominent,

And immortality's in our mastermind,
And we destroy everything we can find.
And tomorrow when the human clock stops and the world stops turning,
We'll be an index fossil buried in our own... [more]

Yes, thanks Miko. For me, it goes a long way towards explaining Obama and Wright's connection and in context, it makes a lot more sense now.
What it boils down to is which candidate you feel aligns most closely with you and voting for them. I find it interesting that so many people are sitting around waiting for Obama's major downfall. Anticipating it with something bordering on glee.

I'm still downloading the mix though.

A surprising idea for "solving" climate change
I think we should just take our lumps and deal with the new paradigm. Perhaps future generations, when actually having to deal with the world we've left them, will make wiser choices.

From the way the local media acts around here, you'd get the impression they're hoping something would happen on the ferries!
If you're on a boat and free to wander around for 30 to 60 minutes, short of going into restricted areas, what could you possibly be doing that's 'suspicious?' Eating too many corndogs?

I was raised a JW and although I quit in my late teens (I realized I was agnostic), I didn't find anything 'spirit breaking' about not being able to celebrate holidays. Explaining why I didn't was tiresome, however.

This incident is one of the first of many chickens coming home to roost.
If you do away with any treaty or protocol you don't agree with, why would you expect your enemies to behave like you won't?
Iran was watching the US moves in Iraq the whole time. There is no high road we can take, so it's a matter of who blinks first. There will be more feints and provocations of both sides in the near future.

Israel leaks plans for nuclear strike on Iran.
200+ nukes is not that much of a deterrent if you've got nothing to lose - they can't bomb people within their own borders. MAD was based on the fact that neither side would win a nuclear contest.
They would've need a big attack. The United States won't come running to help, we can't afford it...and if the oil supply is threatened for long enough, our economy will go into a tailspin.
And destroying Iran's nuclear capability doesn't stop their military OR the... [more]

Well, I (obviously) beg to differ.
When I was just out of high school, I was getting into punk. Most of my friends listened to whatever was on the radio. A guy I knew in junior high named Nick, used to send mix cassettes to a mutual friend of ours (who'd I'd later wind up in a band with).
My friend couldn't take the stuff that was on the cassettes, so he'd give them to me. Nick's tapes would have artists like Chastain, Motorhead, Husker Du, Megadeth, Motley... [more]
