I have two separate Dell desktops: (A) one with dual CD burners and, (B) one with a DVD-ROM & separate CD-burner. They have reasonably equivalent CPUs (2.66-3.1 GHz) but B has twice the RAM of A (1 Gb vs 512 Kb). I just bought a DVD burner since they seem insanely cheap (yeah, I'm really with the times - what's Blu-Ray, duh!). Never having burned DVDs, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to install the burner on A, so that I have DVD read capability on both computers; or on B, under the assumption that the greater RAM & dual DVD units would make DVD-to-DVD copying more user-friendly/faster. Is that a BS assumption, or is it reasonably painless to copy DVDs using a single drive? Your thoughts?

My wife remembers reading a story about some famous person (Churchill, Franklin, ?) who, when interviewing a potential employee, took them to dinner. If the prospect salted his food before tasting it, he didn't get the job - presuming that they would rush to judgement without having all the facts. She can't remember who it was attributed to though. Anyone know?

I posted a question in AskMe yesterday. How long before I can post again - i.e., does it take 7 calendar days or reset on a given day, for example? My wife & I are traveling to Asheville next Tuesday for 3 days and I'd love to ask for suggestions on places to go/things to do (other than Biltmore).

My uncle died last week at 86. In World War II, he was with the O.S.S. in the China-Burma-India theater and on 8/17/45 parachuted into the Shantung peninsula to liberate the Weihsien internment camp from the Japanese (this was the camp that Eric Liddell died in - he was the English 1924 Olympics runner in Chariots of Fire). There is an online
exhibit at the Smithsonian American History museum with a picture of him and three others at Weihsien (page all the way down, next to last picture on the right, he's on far left). My question: when I click on the picture to enlarge it and then attempt to right click it to save it, up comes a Macromedia Flash Player script & no joy. Is there any way I can save this enlarged picture to my hard drive? Help of Mavens of MeFi!

I'm sure this invites a pile-on, but I thought
this question in askme was thought provoking and was looking forward to discussion and comment, but it got deleted as "chatfilter." How much more worthy were
this or
this?

I am looking for a 3-D floor-plan software for interior designers that can be used to show clients how furniture, rugs, art, lighting, etc. will look in their home spaces. Anyone have any recommendations? Extra points for something simple to use for a computer "novice."

I really thought she was just pissed at being left so long but as the day has gone by I've noticed she has been sneezing and very lethargic and just noticed she has a fever, My question is can I give her human pain reliever for tonight til I can get her to the vet Tomorrow ,
since it already has cost me 200.00 to board her. Help!!!!

I have some old LPs that I wish were available on CD but aren't. Is it possible to run my LP turntable through an amp & take the amp's output & feed that into a computer sound card & save it as a digital audio file that I can then burn onto a CD? Has anyone done this? What's required?

Mort pour la France
Setting aside partisan differences and arguments re: Iraq for the moment, and at the risk of offending the more cynical of the denizens that lurk within with what they may consider the smarminess of this link, we would do well to remember during the upcoming weekend, what Memorial Day should be about - a tribute to those who have served & fallen in uniform.

NUTS!
While we should all strive to appreciate diversity of opinion, this (via NandoTimes) just goes to prove that idiocy knows no bounds. Comments are probably superfluous...
