Ask post: But I didn't even get to say goodbye!
You learn, like we all do, to have a very private part of yourself that is ONLY known to you. Afterall, the heart is many layered and there is the part that the general public sees; the part that only the closest people see and then there is the secret self that only you know and see. That third part is the one to nurture.

Being pregnant and hormones makes your world spin and it continues to spin post-partum. As mentioned upthread it helps to have other things to do... [more]

MeFi post: Sarah Palin as McCain's running-mate
Is the Republican Party or members of it purposely trying to derail McCain? The Palin nomination seems so problematic on a wide spectrum of areas. If he chose her as a Hail Sarah pass without vetting then "wow." If she was foisted upon him and his team assumed due diligence then someone just shanked him, bad. I am still trying to digest everything, and I admit that this is one very strange buffet that I am ladling on my plate.

Thanks to Orthogonality and others. I am going to go ahead and think that McCain was done a purposeful disservice by both Rove and anti-abortion elements; caught in a compromise with predictable behavior he chooses a candidate that was not fully vetted. Damn, I assume he plays craps better than this blooming situation indicates. Man, there are a lot of long knives out for Palin in Alaska and wow, McCain in his own party.

In answer about the annual Alaska checks, better known as the PFD. Every Alaskan regardless of age receives a dividend check including infants as long as residency requirements are met. There are no state taxes levied however there are Federal taxes. The PFD came about when oil wealth was placed in stock funds and managed by the state under a Democratic administration. It is joked that Alaska pissed away all of its oil wealth foolishly except for the PFD which a lot of families depend upon... [more]

I need some perspective. Do any of the medical folks have any input on the questions arising with her fifth child and her risky behavior? As on the line of trying to cause a miscarriage? Scurrilous? Yes. Possible? You tell me.

To Davar and everyone else. I am not accusing her of trying to kill her baby I want to understand the underpinnings of what is becoming broken-water gate (postings elsewhere by "maybe" medical people raise disturbing questions). I am happy to leave this alone because the ramifications are hideous. It either tells me things are gonna get REAL ugly are some things are too ugly to contemplate. Since mefi has verifiable medical people to provide perspective I raise the issue here.

Ask post: Four year loyalty vs. seven year's work?
I have never, ever wanted to donate to my undergrad and grad institutions. This includes getting tchotkes, clothing and bumper stickers. I donate to things that were good to me such as, Friends of the Library or to people who need more immediate help through organizations like Habitat for Humanity or emergency shelters.

Ask post: A great problem to have
Look at how they "grow" their staff, in the sense, of paying for training, certification and or adanced education. Do not go to a job that is not willing to help you get new skills or keep your skill set fresh. MeFi post: Lard: The New Health Food?
Leaf lard is not difficult to acquire at all. If you are willing to have things shipped example here I can vouch for the quality of this. I usually buy my own hog and work out the details but you can definitely go smaller than a hog of that size.

Ask post: Breaking up my friend's relationship. How?
Your friend is not being a gentleman, good friend or lover. Rob tells you ALL in his social circle that he is not happy in the relationship with Sara thus, creating discomfort for you all when you see her; Sara is viewed with a combination of pity and contempt, after all, she is considered dull and boring - not worthy of your or his care (you are on his side on this, not hers) and what kind of person claiming kindness and affection badmouths a person like this over an extended period of time?... I am going to be blunt. He is a bully, pure, plain and simple. Because of his anger about you not being an automaton of acceptance to his ideas I would say that his ideas can't handle examination. He is irrational just by his irrational behaviour. Please do not askmefi about whether you can change him, or if you two start hitting it does it mean you're in a relationship or any of the one sided situations that are too familiar on the green. Well, it is $25 per hour for what I pay in the Midwest. At the initial cleaning she spent the day but after that it was maintenance cleaning and only took 2-3 hours. I have less than 2K of footage in my home.

I would base it on per hour of what you would pay for another service. Factor in reasonable counter charge for mileage and honestly access how much work is happening. Me and my tribe are slobs so we know that a cleaning lady is worth it while a neat freak may feel otherwise.
