from around the world... 59 of them. Number 22 struck me as particularly funny

Guerilla Gardening
is a movement to make public spaces more attractive, by planting in derelict or unattractive public ground. Founder Richard Reynolds has enlisted the help of people similarly dedicated to beautifying public space in UK urban areas, and the movement has inspired
other groups. For people who don't want to dig holes in the ground or get their hands messy, there are instructions for
seed-and-run scenarios. Apparently, even the
prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are in on the act.

If Banks were Bands, which would they be?
A Bloomberg columnist writes about the 'personalities' of the world's big investment banks, and compares them to well-known bands. Some amusing, and insightful, descriptions

There are plenty of contests whose purpose is to pick out the best looking
dog, or
flowers or various other things. But what about the ugliest? These sites and contests bring you the ugliest
cars,
dogs,
celebrities (YMMV),
buildings in Ann Arbor, MI, and those bastions of cuteness,
babies.

Trade Tricks
is a collection of all the little 'tricks of the trade' which people build up with experience. Some are pretty hum-drum, but others are useful even if you don't practice the trade. For example, this tip for
checking if a diamond is real may at some time be handy, and this one for
washing a pan would have been useful last night.

Flash Fiction
is a site which publishes short stories (under 1000 words). While the format (3 columns, not evenly filled) is a little annoying, the concept is interesting. My favorite story so far is 'A leaf falls', in the first column scroll halfway down the page. The site is maintained by a writer/ artist/musician, whose eventual aim is to print the stories on coffee mugs. Morning reading anyone?

This animation
shows that biologically and socially relevant information about a person can be conveyed in biological motion patterns. You can adjust the moving figure in four areas: male/female, heavy/light, nervous/relaxed, and
happy/sad.
While I was intrigued by the concept, I'm not completely sure that the moving figure conveyed the state I had intended.
(I found using 'lines' provided a clearer image of someone walking)

How much would you pay for a ghost?
At the time of posting, the bidding for this "Ghost in a Jar" had reached over $750,000. Given the seller's stated experience with the ghost, would you buy this?
