sales-ology for artists
This is not sales 101, just things that have made me buy more stuff at craft fairs:
-Having a story about materials - reclaimed stuff, purchased on vacation, etc.
-Cute packaging goes a long way if I'm shopping for gifts
-Perceived discount for multiples - like if necklaces are $15/each or $25/two, I'll almost always buy two, or look for another item. If I'm buying at a flea market, I'll haggle, but I don't like to haggle when someone's creativity... [more]

Should I lie to get a summer job?
Seconding the temp agency thing. I worked with Kelly Services during my summers while I was in college, and for a bit after I graduated too. Pay was better than retail and gave me experience working in a variety of offices.

Hack Hack Hyeeeuuueegh
I used to have this same problem all the time - I found that eating a small amount of simple carbs (such as a piece of toast or, as metahawk suggests, saltines) helped a lot.
Of course, now that my gall bladder is gone, the problem has gone away as well. Gallstones often come along with weight loss, so if you notice any other symptoms that could be indicative of that, might be something to check out.

Why are there so many dead deer bodies on the Merritt?
I've been in the car-deer collision. It's quite an impact. We were able to drive into a nearby parking lot, and called the police. When they arrived, they asked a few preliminary questions for the police report, and then asked what we wanted to do with the deer. Apparently, we had the legal right to keep it, as we had killed it. Since we gave the good officer a big "no thanks," he indicated that it would be picked up at a later time. He helped us check out the car to assure that it was... [more]

Giving her the finger as I give her the ring
When my (now) husband proposed, after the initial excitement of being newly engaged died down, I put that poor boy under a microscope. I picked fights about silly details about the wedding, and continued the argument if he quickly acquiesced with a "whatever you want is fine, dear" because that meant he didn't care. I was a major pain in the ass, but I think it was two-fold - a) do the little things that annoy me about him in the beginning have the potential to become those things... [more]

Suit Rental
If you have a fairly typical body type, you may be able to find a suit that fits well enough at a thrift store. Re-donate it after the funeral.

Save our future children from being David Copperfield.
This doesn't specifically address your budget concerns, but my mother always tells me (as she's reminding me she has fewer grandchildren than most of her friends) that if you wait until you can afford it to have kids, you never will. Go for it, and make adjustments accordingly.

Who goes when?
My first thought was to alternate picking one week at a time until the year was taken, and then switch who goes first for next year.
However, I've heard lots of stories that begin, "My family always does X for Memorial Day..." so it would be nice to have some continuity year by year. I'd suggest that one of you always gets Memorial Day, the other always gets Labor Day, and you alternate years with Independence Day.

If your doctor thinks that codeine (or any other prescription pain medication) is appropriate for you, she can call your preferred pharmacy with the prescription for you to pick up at your convenience. Call your doctor.

How many calories should I eat in a day?
Bally Fitness offers this test, I believe in the neighborhood of $50 (usually free if you buy a personal training package.) You don't need to be a member, but you do need to be prepared to deal with a sales pitch.

Double bookings
In my experience, the more formal the wedding, the more likely that the meal and events will be paced to fill the entire evening (that is, until 11 or 12.) You may have the ceremony, then cocktails/appetizers, then a toast and dance, then the salad, etc., whereas with a more casual event, you'll probably have ceremony, a bit of mingling time, then dinner will be served.

The number 40% sticks in my head, either as the number of couples who do or don't have sex on their wedding night. Either way, it's a big enough number that we said, "Statistics and exhaustion be damned, we're getting it ON!"

How can I get my college prof to admit he is wrong, and give me the marks I deserve?
I think a different attitude will help you in the future. Instead of "You're wrong and here's why" in the middle of class, approaching him during office hours might be a better bet. Try, "I got a different answer to this question, can we go through the problem together?" Both of you may learn something new.
In this instance, however, I'm voting with those who say "take your 99% and be happy with it."

I've seen auctions that offer a free gift or shipping discount contingent on final price, i.e. "Free Shipping if auction reaches $250!" Since you're willing to discount shipping anyway, that might be a way to reach a price you're hoping for.

Is this a good idea for a counter-offer?
I don't think you're out of line to ask for a review in 6 months, but how familiar are you with the salary structure of the employer? What do you mean by "the max they could offer?" Is the salary range for the position $X0,000-Y0,000 and you're asking to start at $Y0,000 and get a raise in 6 months? That may be impossible without a promotion. What is a typical, standard annual increase? For many employers, a 5% pay increase would be reserved for those employees who "exceed... [more]

Normal sized bath towels around anymore?
It seems as though hotel towels are often a little shorter - maybe look into who supplies hotels? Also, if you're more interested in the size than what they look like, there are lots of kids' towels (usually in a set with washcloth though).

I had it for a year and I miss it. In fact, this question reminds me I've been meaning to sign up again.
You mentioned a concern about spending more because you didn't have to pay shipping; if you shop Amazon at all like I do, you may spend less. For example: Gee, I need this $12 item. Wow, I'll have to pay $4 to ship that item. But if I find something else I want for $13, I can get it shipped for free! Yippee! That makes MUCH more financial sense... [more]

Dogs and cats, snacking together...mass hysteria!
I believe cat food is higher in protein (and maybe fat) than dog food; the same is probably true of the treats. I've heard that regularly feeding a dog a diet of cat food can lead to kidney problems, but I doubt the occasional cat treat will harm your pups. We use pieces of cat food as training treats because they're so little and nummy.

What can my dog chew on?
We have some filled bones like these for our little monsters. It takes them a while to work out all the good stuff, esp. if we get the ones that are 7-8" long. Once they do, we fill them up with canned dog food and freeze them. Keeps them busy for a couple hours, at least.

This may not be that bad. Reds are notoriously difficult to make "take," and with being a semi-permanent dye, a few washings with a harsh shampoo might tone it down enough.

How can I be a better waiter?
The best waitress I know - the only person my husband and I request by name when we go out - is incredibly observant. A couple examples: I'd been playing around with the ketchup bottle and left it upside down, and she brought a new bottle under the assumption the bottle on the table was nearly empty. Another time, my husband removed his sweater about 10 minutes after we were seated, and the next time she came to the table, she asked if we were too warm, and would we like to move to a... [more]

Games to play at a Christmas Party
We play a 5-in-1 card game every year on Christmas Eve. Of course, I'm not remembering the details all that well, but you need a couple decks of cards and lots of pennies. The five games go like this:
1. During the deal, each person chooses red or black. If they choose red and have more red cards dealt, the dealer gives them a penny. If there are more black, they give the dealer a penny.
2. Next is whoever has the best poker hand. I can't... [more]

I wouldn't be offended by it in any way, but I also wouldn't change my activity on the sites solely based on one (author, band, friend, etc). I think a simple, "I'll no longer be maintaining this profile, please check out this Facebook profile for updates" would be perfectly etiquettiblish.

How much is your w/d worth?
Were the washer and dryer available to use for free? When we did laundry in our building, our budget was nearly $50/month in quarters. For the inconvenience of not having it in the building at all? I would guess I would need to spend about 6 hours a month out of my home to do our laundry in a laundromat. So probably about $60/month less, since time is money and all. Although honestly, I don't work that cheap and I would likely avoid a living situation without convenient laundry.

Can't you split the difference and put most of the money down and take a small-ish loan ($5000)? The fact that you're paying consistently on time is more important than the amount of your payment.
