OH SNAP LOL
Somebody still could flame out in this thread.
Shouldn't we save that for languagehat's birthday? (I hope I didn't spoil any surprises.)
Happy birthday!

The Grey?? Oh crap, I always thought it was "The Brown"! I always wondered what everyone was talking about.
According to Colorzilla the RGB values for MeTa are 102,102,102, which according to this would be "grey40". It always looks a little brown to me too, though.

McCain smells like adult diapers...
I think that should be:
What does John McCain smell like?
...Depends...
Although I hear if you stand downwind on a hot summer day you can still catch a faint aroma of burning jet fuel.

vegan nazi zealots omg
That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard all week, and I've been listening to Sarah Palin interviews.
This whole kerfluffle was worth reading just to get that quote, which I can't wait to unleash on someone. Preferably my father-in-law, who for some reason has purchased a case of McCain-Palin t-shirts and keeps trying to pawn them off on us.

You can't really tell if:
1) They didn't read any of the more inside.
2) They read some of the more inside, but missed the part that makes their answer "wrong".
3) They read the whole thing, but misread part of it.
Try to think up a technical solution that fixes (3).
When I have done this it has been because I read the question but there were a lot of answers and by... [more]

Blazecock burst in and grinning a grin
He said three blind mice this is a show down
Blind mice was hot he drew first and shot
And blazecock collapsed in the corner
Da, da, da, da, da
Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said blazecock you met your match
And blazecock said, Doc it's only a scratch
And I'll be better
I'll be better doc as soon as I am able

Obama and abortion
Why does everything in American politics have to always be about abortion?
You are oversimplifying; don't forget about the pressing concerns of gay marriage, evolution, and the urgent need to discredit the global warming hoax as well.

You need a license for that.
this isn't like selling hot dogs from a roadside stand
Actually that isn't as simple as people seem to think, either. There are health and safety inspections, business licenses, dealing with vendors, and of course taxes. A well-liked hot vendor here was recently shut down by the IRS, in fact.

Augusta restaurants/meetup places are not quite to the level of their Atlanta counterparts...
That's true if you are looking at the type of upscale place where you can spend $100 a plate on dinner and twice that on wine, but if cold beer and pizza/barbecue/what have you are what you want we can definitely find a place. Although sadiehawkinstein's suggestion of the Madison/Lake Oconee area is not bad (unless you are coming from Savannah).

What's Stillwater Tap Room all about? Or The Soul Bar?
The Broad Street area is known for its nightlife and tends to attract a lot of students and young professionals; it has seen a real resurgence in the past 15 years, and to a large extent it started with the Soul Bar. They often have live music; the Soul Generals played there after James Brown's Funeral. The Stillwater Tap Room is a few doors down and is one of 3 establishments partly owned by a... [more]

You are potentially giving some bad advice of your own. The poster mentions that the woman takes daily medications for a heart condition. Without knowing more, that may be a contraindication for EC, or, conversely, may make it more important that she avoid pregnancy.
That askme is even more of a trainwreck than most medical questions for a number of reasons.

Can I ask you a question?
There are eight options for a reason and they're general so they cover as much ground as possible, to make the feature as easy to use as possible. We could probably reduce it further to just five or six, tops with a bit of more editing. Less is more in this case.
Why not reduce it to just "good" and "bad"? Usually, as you have stated multiple times, the problem is obvious, and there is always the contact form for those who really want to say more.

etymology questions OK?
I am not too far from Saluda, and that story reminds me of the story of how Albany, GA got its name. Evidently the train going south only went as far as Albany as there was nothing but the Okeefenokee Swamp and Florida to the south. There was an old, blind conductor named Benny on the train, and to let him know they were at the end of the line his co-workers would yell out "that's all, Benny!"
This is a true story, I don't care what the OED might say.
