Overshadowed
I've been visiting overshadowed daily for quite a while now. It is consistently one of the highest quality photoblogs around.
The guy could make any city look beautiful.

Chromasia - a photo blog

I'm not trying to take anything away from chromasia, as it is an excellent blog, but there are many others that surpass it in my opinion. I enjoyed his postings in late 2004 much more than some of his more current stuff.
photoblogs.org is searchable by location and keywords. Take a look around and find some local blogs or something including some of your interests.

I don't really understand the range of links given here. I see a vast difference between street photography (ala joes jyc, satan's laundromat etc) and UE photography (ala abandoned places etc etc).

R.I.P. Freeze
Odd timing for this post, this was announced some time ago.
Alexwoods, indeed Skier is all we're left now it seems.
I loved Freeze. I have a subscription (which looks like a poor investment now) and a drawer full of back issues. I remember when I first saw it thinking that someone had finally made a skiing magazine for me.
It's a sad day, they did start a new movement (if you can apply that term here) in skiing.

Sad song, beautiful video
That was amazing. I think the more impressive thing really though was the editing.
I actually had an idea to this a while ago, but have no worthy subject. I had suggested it to a friend in a band too, and we even briefly tossed around ideas I think.

Photos from LiveJournals
I've had this script running on my own site for my own use since the link was first posted here. I look at it a few times throughout each day, and the results really are quite interesting.
The majority of the images are quiz results and teenage girls posting pictures of themselves or their friends. I've gotten 2 goatse and 1 tubgirl so far, and a few other disturbing images. But every once in a while you get lucky and hit on something really interesting.

hilarity ensues
I think this was posted in the comments of the last Fark post, but my understanding is that you can see all the paid ads (and err, adult links) right here. This is linked fairly prominently from the front page.
I'm really quite incredulous about how many people find it incredulous that they sell links. Even if it's not explicitly mentioned, I've thought it obvious for a long time. It doesn't bother me personally, but I definitely do not expect journalistic integrity... [more]

Cuddle parties
There was an article/first hand experience on Cuddle Parties in Nerve last month. While I found it rather weird, it's an interesting read.
It's objectively odd that this idea seems so 'out there' because we live lives so devoid of human contact.

Terror in the Skies, Again?
It's a good thing the terrorists haven't won. Otherwise, we'd be irrationally paranoid or something.
I am very glad that there's Mr & Mrs Moron carefully observing in their 'aware American' roles.
That said, I do find the behaviour of the flight attendants and supposed air marshals to be kind of strange.

Playing With Time...
That was excellent.
Some of those weren't true time lapses though. They were just a set of blended images.
I really enjoyed the few that were slowed down. As mentioned, the water balloon bounce is quite a trip.

Why digital cameras = better photographers
The only real way to improve photography skills is through practice, like most other things. Digital allows this.
I think there's a disconnect in saying that digital allows better pictures though. Digital simply allows you to forget about the bad shots much more easily and at a fraction of the cost.
Personally I'm a university student with a four year old dig camera. While the lack of resolution and manual features on my camera is a bit... [more]

Blackspotsneaker
To quote a friend of mine from a long time ago, Adbusters seems to be (again) strategically bankrupt. I don't see this going anywhere.
Do they really even believe their own market share graph?? 10% in three years? Have they thought about the infrastructure necessary to fufill 10% of the athletic (?) shoe market?

The Outsider Within
And on Tuesday, Dashboard Confessional releases "A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar" (Vagrant/TVT), a remarkable disc that may become the year's most important rock record.
Indeed, that is one of the worst record titles I've ever heard. I laughed aloud when I read it.
How exactly is this going to be one of the year's most important rock records, when it isn't rock, and it won't be important??

No More Dinnertime Telemarketing Calls
I do phone work for a university, and some of the stuff we get is pretty weird. People inexplicably pick up the phone in the midst of very engaging activities.
If you're either doing something where you can't talk, or you're in a bad mood and don't want to talk, don't pick up the phone.
I personally don't answer my phone unless I'm almost certain I know who it is. That's what the answering machine is for. Leave a message and I'll call you back.

300 reasons why we love The Simpsons
I work Sunday nights, so I haven't seen a new episode in ages.
I think one of the more telling things about the quality and popularity of the simpsons is that you can make a reference or joke about an episode in almost any company, and be confident that someone there will get it.

Gimme a head with hair . . .
Here here for straight razors.
I'm in the 'trendy' part of my city, and ventured into the nearest barber shop when I first got here to see what it was like. Great ambience, and warm shaving cream and a straight razor on the neck. Words cannot describe how great it feels.
Of course, this comes at a cost ($20 can) which can ill be afforded by a university student such as myself. To combat this, I have been growing my hair out for over a year now, and now have a ferocious... [more]

I am a student and work part time as a pseudo telemarketer for my university trying to get alumni donations.
Being on the other side of all this is.. interesting. I usually find it rather amusing when people get so upset about the phone call. I've had people scream bloody murder at me several times before. I'm pretty used to it, and I'm very cynical anyway, so it really doesn't phase me. So really, they're the one that's losing out from getting all upset.

I actually am a HUGE crack whore. In fact, the only reason I have the strength to type this right now is because I just smoked a big honking rock of crack. It's weird that I'm an actual crack whore, and a telemarketing crack whore. What poignant irony.

This is the sort of thing that I would normally dismiss as being overly... well, dumb. Having gone through it a few times and been rendered in a full out, drooling trance however, I'm now quite impressed. The main problem is finding the 20 or so absolutely uninterrupted minutes needed to go through the whole experience.

Godspeed You Black Emperor has a cool way of arranging and titling the "songs" on their album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antenna to Heaven. it's a two-disc set, and each disc has only two tracks on it. inside the liner notes, a timeline of sorts charts the progression of compositions. i guess they have a sort of reputation for going against the grain. good sonic fun, though, 'specially if you like the victory rose.

Though I have no idea why, it seems they have changed around the punctuation in their name.
