Should I just pick up the phone and call?
For all the world this sounds to me like an unrequited crush posing as a friendship. That is, if you are physically attracted to her in any way. They don't sound like the best hosts in the world, but if I'm right about that, it is possible that it was a concious effort to get you to accept that the relationship you've been hoping for ain't gonna happen.
If I'm wrong about that then I'm just wrong.

I don't know if this matters to you, but that Belarc advisor license seems to preclude free use for most organizations.

Bar, bar Black Sheep
I'm gonna take you very literally on logistics, so this is what I'd guess you'd need to get up and running.
If you're in the US, get a membership with a Sam's Club or similar type bulk retailer - all your janitorial supplies, glassware, cigs, etc. can be gotten that way.
Line up a supplier of fresh produce (limes, olives, lemons) who can deliver daily.
You'll need coolers, taps, a safe, a register and an adding machine.... [more]

Help me find a free palm-scanning software
I think some scanners can be programmed by scanning a series of barcodes out of the owner's manual (not sure about your hardware, though.) While a lot of scanners are programmed in this way to append a carriage return or [enter] key to the end of the string they scan, you might be able to find a way to append a comma instead (depending on your equipment.) If you could do so, then you could scan away in some Palm notepad-type app, then export it to a PC and open it as a .csv.... [more]

Why did they make fun of me like that?
you do NOT yell anything back at these people. anyone who got shit in high school can tell you that.
I disagree, very strongly. Ninety-nine percent of this type of stuff is idle bullshit - challenge it. It's not about (again, ninety-nine percent of the time) whether you're big enough to physically whoop their asses. What they want is a fear/apprehension/confusion response. You deviate from that, they're utterly lost. They got no Plan B.... [more]

legality/possibility of paying off someone else's debt anonymously
If you know who the creditors are, just contact them directly. While a scrupulous one (assuming there is such a thing) likely wouldn't divulge personal information, they honestly don't give a fuck where the money comes from so long as they get paid.
As an alternative, if you go the lawyer route, why not see if you can buy the note from the creditor for some fraction of the amount owed?

Re: Firefox 2.x on Windows:
Just before Xmas, I messed up some file permissions in the Application Data folder. As a result, Firefox could read existing files and create new ones, but couldn't update an existing file.
Two months later, I had over 4,000 backed-up copies of cookies.txt, numbered sequentially. Almost 1,500 bookmarks.html backups, just over 100 each for extensions.cache and prefs.js, and a stunning 10,000 backups of sessionstore.js.... [more]

Green-card marriage: risk vs. reward.
they'd better get their stories straight. Expect to be quizzed on each other's birthdates, astrological signs, favorite movies, etc. by Immigration & Customs agents. If they can't stick to a script they won't pull it off.

Have you been applying updates regularly? I doubt it'll solve your problem, but you should be updating (and rebooting when required) as a general rule.

Are higher car insurance rates for males under 25 discimination?
It's not discrimination if they charge all males under twenty-five more. However, in some states you get a lower premium before twenty-five if you get married. So tying the knot might be one way to get around it.
How same-sex marriages or the denial thereof might affect that marriage discount is an interesting question, but not the OP's.

Was a termite inspection performed before the sale? In some states, you can't sell a house w/o having one done.

Re: rawhide treats
I was told years ago by a kennel owner to only buy rawhide treats made in the US. The reason he gave was that rawhide treat makers in other countries sometimes use formaldehyde and other nasty shit to get the hide flexible enough to bend into bone shapes. I have never indenpendently verfied that, so YMMV.

Can a collection agency re-open a nine year-old unpaid debt?
Merchants Credit Guide Co
I sent this very company a 'Request for Validation' letter via Certified Return Receipt Mail at the end of August. As I understand it, they have thirty days to get a reply back with the original details of the debt (to whom, for how much, when,) something they may not want to or be able to pull together if it's junk debt they bought fourth hand (or outright fraud.) I think this is different from the SoL letter I've seen mentioned already;... [more]

I remember doing something like this on a test. I couldn't balance an equation properly, so I multiplied both sides by 0 and moved on. I think I got credit. I know I was told not to ever do that again.

Radio station synchronicity.

Satellite relay? A long time ago, I could flip back and forth between the big 3 TV networks' sat feeds and the local affiliates (we also had an old-fashioned VHF antenna.) They were always w/i seconds of each other, but never in sync.
I know nothing about the radio business; this is the only analogous experience I've had.

There's a fair chance that any Fortune 500 is doing business or partnered with other companies who do things you may not agree with. Have you looked into their practices, clients and customers?
