MeTa post: Crafty folks have friends too!
finally a social network where having a group called "predator" isn't inappropriate.

Inspired by this, I want to start a group where we like minded folk can discuss the best invisibility cloaks, places to hunt well armed men, and emergency self surgery techniques.

I'm going to institute a serious 'no xenomorph' policy though; those fuckers a just a bunch of trolls.

My god, it went from four words to nine. Nine!

It still only has two punctuation marks though.

MeTa post: Too much steampunk?
Because I've grown incredibly tired of this argument, I'm going to choose to believe that anyone who comes into a steampunk thread for the purposes of complaining about how stupid it is, is doing so because in their private time, they like to wear brass goggles and leather jodhpurs, and they are afraid that if doing so becomes popular and mainstream, they will no longer be able to get off on the illicit sexiness that is the sound of steam whistling through a half opened valve.

MeTa post: Your solitary compulsion becomes a shared experience.
One of the amazing powers of AskMe is the surprise "I am not a freak" validation it often supplies

I'd be very wary of that feeling. I've done my share of 'that happens to me too' in some of these threads, and I can assure all of you, I have a lot of freak in genetic makeup.

MeTa post: Musings
I always took it to mean that you considered the person to be like a classical Muse, in that their skills and graces inspired you.

This is how I've always read the term. Which is to say, the one time I've used it, it was in the inspirational sense.

Because Astro Zombie 3 always seems to be able to articulate himself in a way that when I look at it, I think, "Damn. That's a good way of phrasing that, I wish I had been able to express that point."

MeTa post: Whoa - security/cookie issues?
On a somewhat related cookies issue, I can't log in from my PSP anymore. It just hangs after I enter the password/ username and click log in.

I suspect something may have changed on the PSP browser side with one of the recent updates.

Out of curiosity, is there any way to see a page similar to Recent Activity when not logged in?

MeTa post: Numeristerical!
When spoken in a terse and punctuated way, my user number evokes images of a hardened, grim faced man who has spent too many years doing bad things, in other countries, all in the name of a government he isn't sure he even respects anymore. He would be speaking into an old radio; he would have a cell phone that would provide a more private form of communication, but on this particular job, the point was to not be secured, to let the enemy hear and draw their own conclusions. It was this kind of... [more]

MeTa post: Ten Ten Ten Ten For Everything Everything Everything Everything.
Hmm, it looks like next year, July 14th falls on a Tuesday. A drunken meetup might be hard on people who work.

Unfortunately, that really only leaves one logical solution: Everyone must quit their jobs next year, we'll start drinking on Friday the 10th, and stop sometime around Sunday the 19th.

It will be epic; like a scene from a Hunter S. Thompson novel. The hotel room will be flooded and the walls covered in condiments. Someone will be... [more]

What the hell do you think an ellipsis is, anyway...three full-stops...?

You know how when people get really excited about something they let you know like this!!!

An ellipsis is just a really strong commitment to end a sentence.

I’m sure this comment will go over like gangbusters.

If you mean that it will open with a lot of useless shrill noise, you're right.

Like others here have said, I don't usually read other sites, and as a result, everything that is here is usually going to be new to me. MeTa post: I c*nt stop saying twat.
I've found the best way to use a phrase that people will find offensive is to use the correct anatomical term. Hence 'dick-head' becomes 'penis-head' (or better: 'penis-face') or someone isn't a 'pussy' they are a 'vagina'. I don't know why people are more bothered by this, but I've found it to be almost universally true in terms of reaction.

And "twat" shouldn't be vilified. It sounds too much like the sound a ruler hitting a desk would make, and that's just funny.

It's a graduated scale? I'd love to see the descriptions at each level:

Kinda insane: Talks to pets, thinks they answer.

Mostly insane: Gets angry about cross site posting.

Insane: Tries same thing, expects different result.

Barking mad: Uses flare gun inside, on purpose.

I prefer my drama canned. It keeps better.

And let me tell you, there is nothing worse that discovering that your drama stores have gone bad. That's the kind of smell where it's easier to just move out of your house and burn it down, because you aren't ever going to cover it up with an air freshener.

posted to MetaTalk by quin at 7:52 AM on June 18, 2008
A is hostile and univiting.

That's because it grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and had a difficult childhood. It turned to drugs at an early age and lived a rough life, due to suffering from bouts of depression which caused it to lash out in anger at anyone who made the mistake of getting close. It's clean now and trying to turn it's life around.

But I still prefer B.
