MeTa post: If you're gay and in the military you get what you deserve, huh?
I think we should cut TtD a little slack as it appears that English is not his first language and he may be having a hard time expressing himself.

wait... what?

Ask post: Safe to eat?
I would recommend against eating zucchini this time of year. Reason being, gardeners sense people who are willing to eat zucchini at, as the time that zukes overflow gardens rolls around, they are likely to accost you and force ever larger zucchini upon you. Eventually, and I've seen this far too many times, you will be unable to leave the house lest you come home and find every available surface covered with zucchini. Fear this.

Other than that, you should be fine.

I think we should all just face the fact that this site belongs to the moderators, and we're only here to give them stuff to moderate.

Jesus christ, dude. Just start your own fucking metafilter and moderate it however you want and stop bitching that people that aren't you have a site people give a shit about.

I'd like to comment that the word 'cleave' is its own antonym. It means both to split apart and to keep together. My wife taught me that. It's why I cleave to her.

When I was in middle school we visited the university where they had cattle with little holes in their sides where the vet student could remove a rubber plug, reach in, and grab a handful of cud piping hot from the rumen. And then replace it. Certainly inserting a magnet via this access panel would be a cinch. Maybe something similar for your cat?

Ask post: National Steel
What's the stage volume going to be like? Nationals *love* to feedback when it's loud. Based on my experiences with my Estrallita and sound systems and sound people ranging from awesomely good to total crap (I'm looking at you, Blue Moon!) Id try the following.

For solo performers in the blues tradition, a 57 at a 45 degree angle to the cone works lovely. That might not fly in a bluegrass situation where higher fidelity is expected, though. In that case, use the... [more]

Ask post: Recommend a miracle-worker hairstylist for men in seattle/eastside!
I recommend Bijou at Vain in Belltown. I never learned how to specify what I want my hair to look like and generally go about six months between shearings. Despite my communicating to her in grunts and vague gestures she managed to put an utterly normal haircut on my head, which is precisely what I wanted. Nice work.

Her style, as you can from her photo, is rather on the vibrant side. I expect she'll figure out what you're after just fine. FWIW, I no longer go to her.... [more]

MeTa post: monkey king
So sayeth David Allen Coe.

No. No he didn't. The entire point of the song Take this job and shove it is found in the line "When I get the nerve to say." The protagonist never quits his job, never tells off the boss with the flat-top hairdo*, and never gets his wife back. That's what makes the song so fucking tragic. This continued belief that the song is about quitting your job displays the same sort of facepalmic... [more]

Ask post: Kill the Grasshoppers
The gardener Elliot Coleman would say that you are not suffering from an excess of grasshoppers, you have a deficiency of geese. A friend of mine keeps his vineyard (~3/4 acre) free of grasshoppers with the help of a single goose named theo. He eats about a grasshopper a minute all day, every day.

The downside is that they're cantankerous bastards. I don't have recommendations for where to purchase a goose in your neck of the woods but I'd check craigslist and local feed stores.

Steve Solomon's Gardening When It Counts is a manual dedicated to this proposition. It's worth looking into because the author is not a (total) crackpot and has a good degree of credibility in the gardening world.

Ask post: How to control weeds in my garden?
Nature's Avenger is an organic herbicide made from citrus oil. It's certified organic and loses it's herbicidal properties in about four hours. The way it works is by breaking down the waxy coating on plants that helps them retain moisture. The plant then dehydrates and dies. Simple and effective, eh?

My own experiences: Less effective than the catalog claims, but that's to be expected. I was killing off a mixture of grass, blackberries, ornamentals, and scotchbroom.... [more]

A is prettier and seems easier to read but there'll be scaling issues if certain letters get gobs more tags. B makes it faster to page down to the letter I'm looking for and scan to find a tag. I will not, however, be satisfied until it's standards compliant.
