I'm curious. C-U-R-I-O-U-S.
I have a completely opposite take - that if the first thing you're going to do with someone who isn't used to being filmed, a way to make them comfortable might be to ask them to say then spell their name for a few takes. The other answers make just as much sense.

Such an epic waste of MeFiFoo, but I must know: why does Brett Favre pronounce his name that way? Why, god, why?
To say it properly in French would require that spitty/gutteral noise that was easy to assimillate out of there.
So one, that's probably the way his family has said it for a long time, and two, it's similar to assimmilating Surnames from any other country of origin - especially things like r rolls and spitty sounds. Finally, while I don't know if he's in fact Cajun or partly so, that's a whole dialect in itself, so it's part regionalism.

Why are some black people afraid of my dog?
From the South here. I have a Chow, and I live in a mostly Black neighborhood. In my local experience, and from talking to Black friends, dogs are more likely to be outside dogs in Black families and inside dogs in White families. And yes, that could be economics, not race - but I've had a conversation with a Black man that it's a status thing - animals live in the yard, not the house - we're People, not caged - animals live outside - that kind of sentiment.
Yes, most... [more]

Honestly, sass, it is something I always did, and while I still do it, but not as a primary source of income, it strikes me as another not entirely functional thing I do. That does not mean I think your urge to perform is dysfunctional, but yes, I do, I think you are born into it, or not.

Kitty sneezing. What to do?
I believe the red flag sign is the wheezing and rasping through the nose, but given the FIV+ aspect, placing at least a call to the vet is a good idea.
You can also make a sauna out of the bathroom by bringing the cat in the room and shutting the door while you shower.

Bye bye finger, hello courtroom?
Thirding the fact that this is an insurance liablility claim that should be filed. Once the insurance company gets involved, they will most likely pay the claim, based on the details presented. Should B quibble about the settlement and actually sue? It sounds like he doesn't want to, his family does, so I'd say no. Also, the insurance company could go after their pay out from the garage door people, if it was defective. Will A's insurance rates go up in the future? Yes. Will they go down... [more]

Stand up straight with Feldenkrais
In my experience, with your health and posture, I'd say no. I found it very very low key, and focused on very small movements which drove me crazy. In fact, someone fell asleep in class once and was told that "that's when really deep learning occurrs." It's not aerobic or strength training, and for posture, I'd take Alexander or Pilates any day. Then again, as previously stated, people have different reactions. It's like Alexander on a Tai Chi mentality. Sloooooow.

Actuaries are highly intellegent wonks. Joke: What's the difference between an accountant and an actuary? An accountant will look at YOUR shoes when they talk to you. No to the big city thing. No to the office politic thing. Any insurance company has an actuary. Could be in house or by hire. Size of company dictates travel/stress.

This sounds much like my world. Remember that his energy and drive is probably what drew you to him in the first place - and your stress avoidance drew him to you. Then, choose your battles. When this has happened to me, I have made it clear the next day that it is not acceptable in no uncertain terms. How often can you live with those types of... [more]

VCU almum take pride in their experience, as a rule, and the school has had a good recent growth spurt. It's heavy with arts programs, so your bf could meet musicians that way. I can't comment specifically about the psychology program.
The music scene is homey, but that means opportunity for new people, not a closed loop.
Here is another resource for music listings. Go to the calendar section.

how to help an alcoholic stop drinking
Medical care can be a short (3 - 4 day) hospital detox. Many people don't know this, and assume a 30 day residential program is the only type of option. Insurance may pay its share for a detox. Positive - They can safely sedate you. Negative - They will twelve-step you, you will not have a private room, you will be strip searched. But it's over in a few days, and you can go forth and try your hand at staying sober after that with no obligations (only recommendations) for follow up care or 12... [more]

Are we crazy to adopt this rescue puppy?
Why was the mother put down and did the mother care for this litter? The first 6-8 weeks of a dog's life are spent learning their place in the litter, and what behavior the mother will tolerate and what she won't.
If the mother was with the litter, then got hurt and had to be put down, the puppy is probably ok. If the mother was not able to properly care for the puppies or was put down for aggression, I'd be cautious, although it breaks my heart to say so.

Is the Alexander Technique useful for posture and back pain?
I would recommend Alexander over Feldenkrais, but it would have to do with your temperament and most of all, the instructor. I remember some wacky Feldenkrais stuff, like, if you fall asleep in a session, that means deep learning is happening. My take on Feldenkrais was : Hit one side of your head ten times. Instructor says "how do you feel?" You say "unbalanced." Hit the other side of your head. "How do you feel?" "Balanced." But, she may have... [more]

Are you trying to express the conflict of extremes/dual nature of humanity with the tattoo? Or thinking of doing one on one arm and one on another?
If you want a larger sized, wilder, modern looking tattoo, you could look into the bacchae tearing an animal apart - sort of an orgy scene.
To really read Apollo you'd almost have to to the whole chariot with a sun thing.

HomeImprovementFilter: Is there such a thing as short-term contractor insurance? If so, do I want it?
I very seriously doubt (and the doubt comes from state statute variation), that you would have any kind of workers' compensation exposure in this case. You are writing a check, not putting people on a payroll. If you verbally direct or work with the painters, a slim case could be made that they were not independent contractors, but under your control. So stay out of their way as much as possible when they are working.
To minimize liability issues, have them use... [more]

Unnecessary insurance?
You should carry water/sewer backup insurance on your homeowners policy. I'd suggest finding and reading over that, then reading the water company's info, then calling the homeowners people for advice to make sure you are covered. You definitely need some kind of insurance in this area, but I've never heard of it handled through a water company, it sounds funny to me. Consult your insurance professional.

You shouldn't make small claims against your homeowners policy, but thousands of dollars, plus the headaches - that's what it's for. There is no claim at this point. He is interested in insuring against future damages and losses. A major sewer back up can make your house unlivable and unsellable, and nobody is going to be responsible for your losses except you, or your insurance company.
You could also consult your local government board and ask about this, if they... [more]

So, if whatever causes damage to your home origniates in the lateral lines, homeowners covers your home, but not the cost of repairing the lines? I can see that. If that's the case, then the offer makes more sense. I think it's a little pricey, though. If you go 10 1/2 years without an incident, which is more likely than not, you'd be out $1,500 assuming no increase in premium. I still say call your insurance people, if they were smart, they'd quote you the same coverage as an extention to... [more]

Both my parents were older: Mom, 43, Dad 49, and I have a "normal age" set of siblings. . .fifteen years older than me. I don't think it's the age gap itself, as much as the generation gap issues. If the person has old fashioned values and doesn't keep up with technology, as my parents did not, there will be some discomfort between your young child and his or her peers.
