"the point of this thread is for these people...
maybe because some people don't always jibe with the temperment or want to become involved enough to get the shorthand/tendency/jokes
maybe because many people who cruise the links don't look at the comments/agendas and are taken aback when they do just to bookmark all the hydralinks and don't want to be involved in the pissing matches
maybe because no matter what, shorthand/in jokes happen when people know each other and some people feel excluded/rebuked for whatever... [more]

there are lots of reason to delete beside the obvious don't shout fire in a movie theatre, don't shout bingo in a church

i get the impression that certain topics are discouraged
but that's ill defined too, as things stray
some people do want info that is easily available but have no idea how/where to start, then people brainflex all over it
sometimes it's an interesting thread
sometimes it's an outlet for people to shade and frown all over it
maybe it makes them feel good but it's not like it's more functional in policing or community that a bad joke or... [more]

Curiosity about posts and comments leads me to ask...
i was wondering about something along the lines of what led to the creation of MeFi Contribution Index:
been plotting the use and geographical response at different times during the day on askme
haven't had time to be comprehensive yet but it does seem like people are receptive to different subjects depending on time of day, or posts have a chance to grow without being dismissed right away, but then if people don't follow by topic or user, once it slides off... [more]

would anyone else like to see categories like here...
same topics areas keep coming up in batches (maybe because they came to mind on site(ght)) and since some members seem to have already become the defacto authorities in some areas, someone usually mentions them--
i know there are agreed codes some communities know and use for, like, ethicsFilter, techFilter, stainFilter, theoreticalFilter, etc.--
just a thought for randomly time comprised more newly active people like... [more]

if there is a formal anything here, i think i'm the temp or sandwich vendor no one remembers letting in the building.
people seem to like the sandwiches but i swear i have no idea what happened to the coffee money or where they keep the staplers.

ooh, wait, i wasn't suggestion the blahFliter as a standard, just an example of how i've seen some self labeling.
i was suggesting the category option of the Talk post form and asking if there already was a mefi agreed code like how some forums places put tags on the lead post (like MI, tech help, Poll, misc., etc.)

i think ask is fine, but i was considering that it would be easier to search: under "foodfilter" or something for example since people have been doing it anyway, linking post to post and days seem to take on themes once someone posts, people start posting related questions.

MeTa post:
Is there a reason why my really innocuous comment...
is there some precedent/incident of people really getting that upset about deletions/posts they don't care about or is it just the normal human infer-orama going on?
(something rude might happen but i can't bother to go all "gun and a pack of sandwiches" about it)
LOTS of reasons to remove things but even after people vent/infer/snark/joke on a post, there are interesting comments and discussions that occur, which i admit... [more]
