MeFi post: Anime Popeye
This is good just because it rips on Anime.

MeFi post: John Kerry's Horoscope Shows Strong and Optimistic Election Day
take the attitude that, no matter what, things will turn out fine. Your apparent acceptance creates comfort, strength and unity among friends and loved ones.

So...if Kerry wins, that means no long, drawn-out legal process. That might make it worth it.

It would be interesting also to see horoscopes for November 3.

I, for one, know that this is how I define myself as a conservative. Very insightful.

MeFi post: No Christmas Card for Zell from the Carters This Year
*gasp* I'm...shocked!

This comes from the biggest failure of a president in the last 50 years. Jimmy's just trying to build his legacy since he failed to do it when he was president.

How is it that any human that possess a Nobel Peace Prize needs to build a legacy?

Yes, a "peace prize" given to Yasser Arafat is one that I hold in high regard.

Bush's Secretary of State

You're trying to imply that Jeb hand-picked his SecState. That's an elected position.

Should America take into consideration the international support of their presidential hopefuls...?

What? You hippies want the UN to vote for our president? Give me a break.

I always found BugMeNot a waste of time. I can fill in bogus info in less time and use a junk email address. Why not have someone go around and set up username "username" and a password of "password" for all these sites? Then you already know what it would be, without having to visit BugMeNot.

Just a disclaimer: I'm a big fan of Dick Cheney.

I'm sorry. Maybe you got the impression that this post was a positive commentary on Dick Cheney. I strongly disagree with the article, but I found it very interesting. Thus my disclaimer.

He had me reading until I got to the line about my senator (Pat Leahy) being a "schmuck".

Patrick Leahy is the biggest schmuck in Congress. If I could pick one person, out of all 435, to kick out of Congress it would be Leahy. Even over Ed Kennedy.

This guy is despicable for too many reasons to list.

Can I get one? Maybe even two? Seriously.
posted to MetaFilter by MrAnonymous at 9:15 AM on August 15, 2004
Kick Leahy out of congress?

I meant to type 535, not 435. I meant Congress as a whole. My mistake.

Ed Kennedy?

Oddly enough, Ted Kennedy's name is Edward. Goodness.

MeFi post: Monica's worth an investigation, but outing a covert agent isn't?
Well, CIA directors have often had conflicts with Congress. They're in the secrets business and Congress wants in on the secrets. So by putting a congressman in there, Bush probably expects better relations between the two.

But if there is one man in Congress (both houses) that I respect, it's Pat Roberts. There has been a lot of opposition to Goss within Congress. I'm not sure what Bush was thinking. Goss is a good candidate, but might not be able to make it...and might... [more]

MeFi post: The Good Boy
cohappy, face facts. Crime is higher among blacks. Broken homes are higher among blacks. Whites aren't perfect, but as a whole, the behave better than blacks. Call me a racist, I don't care. I have nothing against blacks, but it's their own fault for the shape they are in...just like Cosby said. They've had a generation of complete equality to improve their culture and they haven't.

Is it somehow different for a white person? Of course it is their own damn fault, but what does their blackness have to do with it?

I guess I was referring to those who blame whites for the "condition" of black culture (ie the result of slavery, white oppression, et cetera).

Every new post should now automatically include a statement questioning it's own validity as a FPP, just to get it out of the way early.

I'm wondering how this would be posted somewhere other than the front page. Is this not the only page? (Considering that MeTa and AskMe are for completely different purposes.) It was funny. I thought this was the kind of crap we were supposed to post on MeFi.

It's an official title granted to people of certain rank in government. Tenet is high enough that he gets the title. Those who served as director or acting director of the CIA got the title. If the highest they ever got was deputy director (and not acting director) they don't get the... [more]

My brother lives near that "other" area of northern Minnesota, but he's originally from Wisconsin, so it's "pop." No clue what other name you could give it besides pop, soda, and coke.

Did he turn against the war? Sure. Many soldiers did too.

What I'm saying is, if he threw is medals in protest of the war he served in, why is he now making that service that the basis of his campaign? You don't see Robert Byrd running for reelection on an ex-KKK platform, do you?

Yeah, he fought bravely, and I applaud him for that. He volunteered for a war he didn't like. Illogical, but admirable. He came back and threw away his ribbons, a sign of protest against the war he had fought in. He threw away the symbols of his service. He effectively threw away his service. And now he wants it back because he realizes it is politically advantageous.

Wulfgar!, so his campaign isn't based on his Vietnam service. Fine. But why does he work it into... [more]
