Get a Freelancer; Guru; Elance. There's a bunch of them.

Ask post: EU safe harbor restrictions - who should comply?
Wow. Thank you for that :) Puts my mind at ease a bit. So if we're reselling US web server space / services to a group in the EU, because we're also in the EU all the data controllers are under its applicable laws and we're fine.

Ask post: Registering a domain name with corporate links
It just wasn't worth the time or money for us to fight them in court though, so we finally gave it up.

A long time ago now, I ran a computer webzine called Spire Magazine. Our logo was just the lower-case word "spire" in Arial, which we thought would be fine. We went for years, actually, albeit with little success, starting in 1994 and finishing in about '98. (We were very young.)

Anyway, it was only a matter of time... [more]

Ask post: CMS on Microsoft servers
Yeah, this'd be for managing an external website with an image dictated by marketing but content contributed by various people around the organization. Zope et al always seemed a bit like PostNuke to me in look and feel. We're going to be paying a lot of money for a very swish design, so whatever we go for has to cope with that - no login fields anywhere, for example, and certainly none of the little-boxes-of-information look that seems to be inherent to open source CMS.... But thank you for the links :) I'll certainly check the first two out thoroughly.

Ask post: With the recent decision by Kottke.org to be reader supported, I'm curious to see how you value your daily reads?
I would easily pay $30/year for MeFi, but I can't think of any other individual blog I'd pay for. Now if an entire network of blogs were to levy a blanket charge, there is a possibility I would be moved to open my wallet - but only if it contained a MeFi or a Slashdot.

Self-link for the interested: rumandmonkey.com. As you can see, it isn't exactly mainstream stuff.

We run Webalizer twice hourly, and it tells me that we've had around 590,000 pageviews so far today (GMT) and 55,000 unique users.

Good points all. I find the Modern Humorist story the most interesting, but I think you're right in saying that their Lampoon connections may have helped a teensy bit. Nonetheless, it may be worth pursuing.

Oh, and as an aside, it turned out that our banner ad company was giving us unpaid defaults (despite promising never to do this). Hence the very low royalties.

(And finally, we've been getting between 300,000 and 400,000 unique visitors a month. This month I think it will end up being much higher.)

To clarify: I'm using AdTegrity, a supposedly CPM network, which is giving me around $11 / day. AdSense is giving me much, much less, although I'm not using it on all pages.

Just a note: I was wrong about Paypal not requiring membership in the UK. Currently that's in the US only, which sort of scuppers my evil plans. Ho hum.

I just today got hit up for a massive amount of money on two digital cameras being sent from the US. Irritatingly, I've had one for over a year, and had accidentally left it with my parents in California; the other is new. Nevertheless, they charged me £71, which is over half the combined cost of the cameras. (Although *cough* not their standard retail prices.)

Er. Not that caffeine makes you fat, to the best of my knowledge. But you get my drift.
