I'm a happy customer of Site5 (site5.com). They have a $15/month package with 12GB of space and 1 TB of monthly bandwidth.

Ask post: Negative ghostrider, the pattern is full
It sounds to me like you have a short attention span. You need to learn how to find the beauty in subtle nuances and not shifts of emphasis. When you keep changing the kick/snare/hi hat patterns, you are changing the feel of the song and that gets distracting. A little variation goes a loooong way. Learn restraint.

Listen to some Beatles albums and notice how Ringo plays what is necessary for the song and not a beat more. Paul was all over the place with his bass... [more]

Second vote for TSOYA. Also, check out their other podcast: Jordan Jesse Go. Takes a little time to get into it (it's just two guys talking about their life), but the payoff is good.

Ask post: Only Fools and Webgeeks
If you're in control of the data format, and don't have to use XML, you might want to look into using JSON for your data. In my experience, JSON is easier to get your head around than trying to parse XML. You could even continue to use XML, but convert it to JSON to parse.

Just an idea. Good luck!

Ask post: How do I deepen my voice without smoking?
I'm NOT suggesting this, but Tom Waits used to scream into a pillow in an effort to make his voice more raspy. He also drank whisky and smoked, so I'm not sure which of these methods worked for him. Probably all.

Ask post: Choosing a multitrack recorder
I'm not sure if you're going to be able to get under $200 for what you describe.

I came across this Fostex recorder that seems pretty cool for $250.

I also found a Korg machine for $300.

Both of them only handle recording 2 tracks at a time.

Ask post: How can I start being a source of inspiration rather than envy?
my constant encouragement that people work to improve their lives could be considered nagging

This is the only situation in which you get to encourage people to improve their lives: when someone comes up to you and asks "can you give me some advice on how to improve my life?"

Giving that advice unsolicited when you are in a position of power will always make you look like a jerk.

Just set up a filter in Gmail and have it skip the inbox and archive the message. You'll never see it and gmail won't be falsely led to believe that it's spam.

I like bighappyfunhouse's idea: Morris Thorn. I also like the name Big Happy Fun House, but I guess that's taken already. How about The Morris Thorn Hour of Fun? Or just Big Happy?

This doesn't really fit your requirements, but because I'm such a Steve Martin fan: Cruel Shoes.

Another idea: Seriously Fun

Ask post: Poker tips for a novice player?
"Are there ways to sucker people in when you know you're going to win?"

Slow play when you have a monster hand like a straight flush. This is a case where you don't want to bet big and push out people with marginal hands. You want them to think they have the best hand and bet big or at least to bluff at the pot because they don't think you have anything.

You still haven't answered whether you are playing no-limit or limit, but I... [more]

Ask post: How do I keep time with a click track?
There's some good advice here. I'll just add (sorry if someone already said this) that you want to put the accent on the one of the measure. I only really pay attention to that beat of the click.

When I first started trying to use a click track, I'd try to focus too much on hitting every beat at exactly the same time as the click. Once I relaxed and only used the click as a guide, it was much easier.

Good luck.

Ask post: Traveling to Negril, Jamaica
Kungfujoe, everything you quoted talks about Kingston. This person is going to Negril. These cities are on opposite sides of the island. Negril is a tourist destination and it's in their best interest to make sure nothing bad happens to the tourists.

That being said, could you get robbed in Negril? Yes. Will people come up to you on the street and try to con you? Most definitely. But, that's going to happen in most tourist destinations in poorer countries. As... [more]

Ask post: I need to get a life
I don't have much to add that isn't echoing what has already been said, but I'll share my anecdote anyway.

I was 22 years old and working at a burrito joint. I asked the 'what should I do with my life' question to my boss (who was probably around 35 at the time) and his respone was:

"What you do with your life will become what it becomes. Do what you want to do, fuck around, work silly jobs. Everything else will take care of itself.... [more]

Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea album has sold about 141,000 copies according to this article. Cult classic indeed.

BTW, I am so sick of that Steve Albini article. I know it's on topic to post it here, but still, I'm just sick of hearing about it. Albini makes it sound like any self respecting musician should just pack his instrument up in the closet as opposed to trying to find a way to get paid for what he/she loves to do. Hey, Steve, I also hear... [more]

I think that you type that phrase because it's a fun one to type. Something about the "ere" "are" combo is satisying to type for some reason. I just realized that "reason" is a fun word to type, but it's not a very good way to start a sentence.

Lots of good advice here. Good luck quitting, it will be one of the best things you ever do for yourself. I've been cigarette free for about 7 years now after an 8 year habit. The thought that helped me quit, my mantra, so to speak, was this:

Millions of people don't smoke every single day of their lives.

That and water. Lots of water.
