Ask post: Drinking in the Financial Drama
She has consumed 11.5 bottles (some by herself at home, and some with friends or by bringing it to parties as hostess gifts

Ah, here we go.

Perhaps you could divvy up next time in three categories: yours, mine and ours. Some wine you plan to share. Some wine is yours, some wine is hers, for times when you need a hostess gift or wanna break out the vino with friends. Sounds like you want to be able to have a bottle in the... [more]

Give it a week or two, and see if she can go for some walks. You do feel jittery when you first start taking it. The doc should be able to prescribe something to take the edge off that DOESN't knock her out if for some reason this continues.

She really should be feeling better in about a week or so. I know I did, when I was taking it.

One caveat-if she is still having panic attacks and having problems functioning after the first week, have her screened for bipolar type two just to cover your bases...that's important.

Gardening? Heavy housework? Commuting to work via bicycle?

While others are coming up with other ideas, have you tried regular spinning classes? For me the fact I have gotten to know the other folks in class helps keep me headed to the gym, plus having an instructor telling us what to do helps me too.

Ask post: truth and/or consequences?
I'm guessing the added mix of Elizabeth Edward's cancer, and folks not wanting to do anything to cause her any additional pain.

I'd heard these rumors months ago...I assume if it is true, eventually it will be all over the news. But I think a lot of us really really hope it isn't-again, for Mrs. Edward's case.

(also, since apparently John Edwards may indeed still be under consideration for Obama's VP candidate, it is possible this whole thing... [more]

Ask post: a shitty question
Actually, there are so many components to this...diet issues, hydration issues, etc.

If a person does not eat enough fiber, or eats too big a proportion of the wrong foods, muddbutt can occur. Drinking enough water is also important...as for reading material in the bathroom, sometimes when one is constipated it helps to have something to read while waiting for bowel muscles to relax and do their thing. Conversely sometimes when one's "stomach is torn up" it... [more]

PS-I have -rarely-had the issues that the OP describes. It's very annoying and it does encourage me to be more careful with diet, and again, hydration.

Ask post: Is my relationship the titanic about to hit an iceberg?
Oh, honey, this is a royal trainwreck getting ready to happen. You are so right to question things now. It really really is true that financial issues can rip the heart out of a relationship, and if you have a partner you can't trust to be on the same page with you? It's hell.

This could only work if he were willing to change in some areas, and the truth is most of the time people are who they are and don't change UNLESS they themselves have an epiphany.... [more]

Ask post: I need recommendations for shoes for plantar fasciitis
You basically want to wear shoes with arch support.

DO NOT wear flip flops or mules. They will exacerbate the problem.

I have running shoes with mesh canvas type uppers-they work pretty well. And thin socks should be just fine.

Finally, I hope your doc recommended doing calf muscle stretches.

Ask post: Plan for post-partum family visits?
AT THE MOST you may need ONE person to help you around the house when the baby is home. That person CAN be the spouse, or ONE of the mothers, or ONE very good friend.

PARTICULARLY if you are trying to establish nursing, the last thing you need is a ton of stress juggling relatives. I would recommend that no one come until the baby is at least a week or two old. Trust me. You will be ready to kill people.

AT the very least they should make their... [more]

Think a little more about a guinea pig. We have had one before and they really do split the diff between hamster and kitty. If you do decide to go that route get more than one (to keep each other company) and have a really big cage.

Ask post: Preventing the slow, painful slide into friendship
Nice advice, but game warden has a point. I have a daughter with a busted heart right now because a guy she was interested in was acting as if he were romantically interested but it turns out he was just wanting to be friends and not realizing that to her asking her out to the movies sure sounded like a date.

So, sure, ask her out but it might not totally be enough to communicate the idea to some people. OTOH if you just met my daughter, she'll totally take the hint.

Ask post: What is the feeling of having a feeling, of knowing a feeling, and following a feeling?
I do need to say this...your friend may have technically committed suicide, but the real truth is he had a fatal case of bipolar disorder. The disease killed him.

Oh, and some of the "not feeling" you described? That can actually be a form of depression. (There's more than one way to experience depression.) When I suffered from it it was if my emotions had been shot full of novocaine. My personal theory is that when bad stuff is just way too bad to handle... [more]

Ask post: How strange it is to be anything at all?
Well, theologically God exists outside the universe as well as exists everywhere in it.

To be technical, He is both transcendent and immanent.

Theologically, then, He created the universe out of nothing-He spoke it into existence.

Now, as to where God was before He did that?

Don't ask. I don't have enough Excedrin in the house to help my head if I think on that for too long.

First, you pick your gym carefully. Mine is owned by a hospital where the focus is on health for all types of bodies. Believe me when I say that makes a major difference.

As for food, as you start eating healthfully, learning about proper portion size and enjoying fruits and veggies and other wonderful things, you will find out how much better and more energetic you feel. Don't do a diet, diets suck. Eating healthy is being kind to your body-and it will reward you for doing so.

My husband still thinks I am hot. As a matter of fact, as far as he is concerned, I'm Angelina Jolie.

One of my children was only breastfed for three months then weaned herself as I'd gotten pregnant again and the milk flavor apparently changed...she is just as healthy as the other two who were totally breastfed.

You can most definitely combine formula feeding and breastmilk after breastfeeding is established. And if you have to switch to formula there is NO shame in that. You simply do what is best for you and your baby. In your case, since there is medication you need... [more]

Okay, here is what you do.

Tell him if he cares about your soul that he needs to spend time praying for it instead of talking to you. Because the Bible clearly states that no one comes to Jesus unless the Father draws him...in other words, your conversion is up to God.

And from THIS Christian's point of view, that is a win-win situation. Because even I know that badgering you about it WILL NOT CHANGE ANYTHING.

Assuming you are Catholic, don't you have to go thru premarital counseling before a priest will marry you? (Or them, actually...) If they are planning a church wedding more than likely premarital counseling will be encouraged if not INSISTED upon.

Let the counselor rattle their cages. That's what they are for!

You do know this is a control issue right? She apparently does not like your clothing choices-otherwise she'd do a gift card or give you a gift receipt.

I guess all you can righteously do is hand them back, tell her they are not the right size, and ask her if she has a gift receipt, and if not can SHE swap them?

yohko, we aren't talking just anyone's giftgiving here...those of us with a certain type of mom can spot them a mile away. We love them, but sheesh...and being a mom myself of adult children, I myself am terrified of buying them clothing. Because we moms have OPINIONS!

If I talk to MY son once a week I consider that fine. Same for my married daughter...I don't usually talk to anyone else on the phone during the week myself.

Perhaps he needs suggestions on managing the expectations of others!
