Local Twitter Slang, And All That Jawn
Some things simply have to be. The first time I encountered "shite" (on the pre-www net) it was an epiphany. I knew that was the way I was born to spell and say it, rather than the way I had spelt and said it since I was but an infant.OK, here's my shite story. Hold on to your knickers...

Back in the day, arcade games would let you input your name if you got a high score, but it was limited. For example, Donkey Kong only let you input 3... [more]

Another Side of Pakistan
The kid on the bongo is mad [0:41 - 0:44]. Mad!

FTA: The lyrics take a punch at basically everything that is wrong with Pakistan’s set-up. From the prices of staple food to current political parties, the powerful army and the country’s revered and now feared ISI – the band leaves not one stone unturned as it goes along its merry satirical way.

The song mentions the seemingly unexplainable swings in food prices. But why complain about the price of chicken going down?

Bloody hell. Top work, bardophile. Enjoying this thread way more than I thought I would. It's criminal that it's got so few comments!

Your translation of "I don’t want to eat them, I don’t like them" makes a heck of a lot more sense to this English speaker than "I find them bad."

‘My magnificent new [red] hair’
This whole ginga hate thing started out as a joke, didn't it? Ginga hate = bacon love. It's jumped the shark. Time to put it to bed.

Here's an hilarious clip of a very angry ginga ranging against South Park [think: leave Britney alone – but replace the tears with angry spittle]. Then to make it even funnier, a guy riffs on it in the MST3K style. [2:50 – NSFW... [more]

Dude, that theory is so blown out of the water I'm surprised you even mentioned it.

Leaky wooden boats? That seems like an unfair characterization.

I wasn't having a go at Chinese boat builders! It was a hat tip to this big hit in Australia, famously banned in Britain during the Falklands War [if the faces look familiar, it's because two of them went on to bigger things with Crowded House].

But also what IndigoJones said. It was a fair characterisation.... [more]

Yet night sleepers can be as cranky about it as they want. "Oh, I must have everything perfectly dark and if you so much as drop a spoon I will stomp out and glare at you."

What about these neurotic types who can't get back to sleep when woken up by said spoon? What's wrong with you people?!

Zzzzzzzz. Wah, huh? Oh, spoon. Zzzzzzzz.

Have You Seen The Wire and Read War And Peace?
A few years ago, some Nimrod spoilt Citizen Kane for me. Never forgiven them. ALWAYS give spoiler alerts, folks, no matter how old the movie.

I haven't seen North by Northwest, either. But I plan to, so nobody spoil that for me.

Growing Old Gothically
Because black is timeless as far as fashion goes? So a middle aged person wearing a lot of black doesn't look like a complete moran who's trying to pretend to be 20 years younger.

Also maybe because black is very flattering for the figure? And you tend to chub out as you get older so why not stick with black. And a lot of goths were chubby in the first place. That's the whole reason wh...

Great. But then don't complain about OVERT sexuality.

Maybe it's gonna be that overt sexuality is ok when it's on their terms and not yours, fanboy.

Eggs ZACKLY! And right back at ya.

So how about ix-nay with the ixed messages-may, and all the random complaining about boys making comics on "their terms"..... and a bit more of the writing and drawing and distributring of the comics? How 'bout dem apples?

Look at Ad hominem. Making a valid point but having to back it up with "I am not trying to be a dick." This is where the thread is already heading.

In closing, let me RE-state, it's not about "sex" as most of the replies are coyly putting it. The speaker I highlighted likes being tied up, and being submissive, and being fucked painfully.

Someone who didn't "lend their stuff" [erasors, ruler, cool coloured pens etc.] was called a JEWBALL at my school. I picked it up and started using it freely, the slanderous bit went completely over my head. Mum was horrified when she found out and told me to cut it out! [she also told me why]

Compared to the UK, Australia doesn't have a large Pakistani presence, but we play a fair bit of cricket against the Pakis and have got a traditional hockey rivalry with the Pakis. In general company, the word is a bit like "wog" rather than "nigger".

You could drop the Paki word now and then in conversation and only the most hardass of PC merchants would pull you up. However, the term is completely off limits in the main stream media.

Exotic animal debacle in Zanesville
It would be good if article explained what animals MIGHT STILL BE OUT THERE. Or is it like the corrupt mayor out of Jaws? Gotta keep it hush hush.

They mention a wolf and a monkey but it is not made clear if that is all that's on the loose. If the police don't know then it would be good to report that.

Lulz. But when I read an article from such an esteemed journal I'd rather not put it down *thinking* I might know how many wild animals are on the loose. Bad journalism.

I am mildly amused that a police department, that for 8 years, had been regularly called to a property owned by a strange dude that was CHOC FULL OF FARKING TIGERS, might have had, like, um, a plan?

Dr Pepper Blew?
A milk bar in Australia was not a shiny spacious milk bar like in Back to the Future. It's more often known as a "deli" nowadays. A milk bar [or deli or delicatessen] was a corner shop that sold milk, and lollies, and dodgy meat filled pasties in warmers, and crap, and maybe had a game of sit-down PacMan chucked in a dark corner.

Generation X hasn't had a real voice since Axl got fat.
Gen X is the generation who lived through the inflection point of the decline, at least in the upper middle class. And the opportunities that people had in our generation for mobility and improvement have been and are being taken away.
