I've often considered fraternities/sororities to be nothing more than sex clubs. Date rape is more or less the inevitable outcome of these collegiate Bacchanalian cults.
These images are voyeuristic and dirty, but a punch in the chest in a Nan Goldin sort of way.

How come people can talk about "white people", implying blandness and often stupidity, without thinking twice, but talking about those black people is, like, bad?
I've always wondered why black people never obey crosswalk signals.

Your blue collar shtick always wears thin, but calling Spike Lee a "twat" is as vulgarly close to trailer park as I allow myself to encroach.

Why Bush Left Texas
One point to consider is this can only benefit the Kerry campaign - it is forcing Bush supporters to take the position that, "Well, it don't really matter anyways, Vietnam. What matters is the economy, I mean health care, I mean Jesus!"
It forces Bush supporters to consider current issues, as they have a natural blind spot to Bush's faults, one of which is now Vietnam.
Bush is stranded as the focus is forced to shift.

Stiffing the Sopranos
I just plain don't eat in restaurants any more if I can possibly help it. Eating at home is cheaper and a lot of times way tastier. And I'm not even a very good cook.

There is an enormous difference in what can be prepared in an professional kitchen and what can be prepepared on a $500 electric range.
Secondly, you really should eat at Dorsia.

George Bushes's military record: critical analysis
More from the Boston Globe.
It's important because it illustrates Bush's true character, which the laminated cutout presented by the RNC does not.

Meanwhile, would Kerry MIND running on his record?
As he was graduating from Yale, John Kerry volunteered to serve in Vietnam, because, as he later said, "it was the right thing to do." He believed that “to whom much is given, much is required.” And he felt he had an obligation to give something back to his country. John Kerry served two tours of duty. On his second tour, he volunteered to serve on a Swift Boat in the river... [more]

The most interesting aspect of The Bell Curve lies in its motivation.
troutfishing, I'm familiar with the Pioneer fund, and I've read Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel, and bought copies and given them to friends.
I also realize there are razor jaws awaiting any new data "supporting" vicious beliefs. Their ancient motivation is an evil. But science is not moral.

5 Reasons Why Christians Should Not Obtain a State Marriage License
Funny that conservatives are for privatizing everything... yet religious institutions such as marriage have to be defined and defended by the government. I for one am in favor of privatizing marriage.

Another classic example of this is gun laws should be left to the states, whereas marijuana laws better fucking be in the hands of the pharmaceutical companies government.

Is Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon any good?
One of the finest novels ever written.

In my view it is wandering, somewhat aimless, but interesting. A grad student in 1983 may say it is "the finest," but that line has worn a little thin, much like DF Wallace's footnote special effects.
Here's the first paragraph from Jon Dos... [more]

What I can't help but wonder is what issues get pulled into the mix when Keyes and his wife get in an argument about ... say, whose toothbrush is whose? Or when one of the kids won't take out the trash?
"You have said that you will not take out the trash, that you will take out the trash after you play Nintendo. But I tell you today that taking out the trash is no mere chore. Just as a righteous society is preserved... [more]

AREA WOMAN RECALLS DAYS WHEN SHE RESENTED BEING HIT ON
SALEM, OR—Kimberly Jones, 43, vividly remembers the bygone days when she took umbrage at being pursued by aggressive suitors, sources reported Monday. "I was quite the looker back in college—I couldn't even go out for a few drinks with my girlfriends without some guy macking on me," Jones said from the kitchen of her one-bedroom apartment. "That used to really piss me off for some reason I... [more]

Is there such as thing as too much memory?
There seems to always be this tension in Germany between recognizing what was done, and not talking about it anymore and moving on.
The last time I was in Rotterdam I walked by a train station that was a central point for the deportation of Jews. There was no sign, no plaque. I took a couple of pictures.
While walking slowly around the small station, putting my hand on the wall, two young Dutch mothers walked past, one with a stroller,... [more]

Who needs credibility when the mob's gaping maw is salivating for more?
Here's an example from a right wing weblog:
"The ad is powerful, but, in my opinion, not as persuasive as it could be because it is so general. The veterans say that Kerry has lied about his service; the doctor who treated Kerry for the wound that gave rise to his first Purple Heart says Kerry's account is untrue; they say Kerry betrayed his comrades. But there are no details, no... [more]

Like a flamefest come to life. . .
I've had many people come to me, tell me that Fahrenheit 9/11 is full of lies, and that they'll never watch it.
I'm also beginning to think that while many will never publicly say this, most people backing Bush are for an American Empire.

Poll Shows Growing Arab Rancor at U.S
