MeTa post:
how r u?
Questions such as this just invite miles of comments. Requiring that questions have a theoretical best answer would at least give a concrete guideline beyond the vague suggestion not to post chatfiltery things, which above poster alluded to, yet seemed not to feel applied to them.

Draft Posts?
unnecessary bloat. there are plenty of great text editors out there, we don't need to reinvent the wheel.

Time's up. Where are the pictures?
Those T-shirts are lookin' pretty snazzy, any chance there might be some leftovers available to those of us not fortunate enough to have attended the soon-to-be-legendary Portland Meetup?

Can you put in the ability to retract a question?...
Metafilter does't like deletions, if you hang out here on Metatalk long enough (about 5 minutes) you will see that. Think before you post, because once you hit post that baby is off into the giant untamed jungle that is Meta and it's gonna take an administrative act of god to get it back.

Soo... GuyZero is apologizing in MeTa for his MeTa post referencing his own weak comment in someone else's bad FPP?

i am still in favor of karma. metafilter will not necessarily turn into the alternate universe of slashdot comment hell. a simple and well planned system combined with a clean interface and adherance to standards adaptable to customization will produce a signifigant improvement in the usability of the site.

It just wouldnt be the same without 'ole PP to stir up the shit. I never much liked arguments where everyone agreed.

I posted this to feature requests. What im thinking of is a max on the actual size of the box that you put your link into, not a retroactive callout in the comments of "Your post was 5 characters too long!". Just make it long enough for ~100 words (paragraphish length).
You can [more inside] all you want, all im asking is to keep the multi-paragraph direct quotes off the front page.

I thought we might be able to come up with a solution that allows diversity and creativity. That is why I posted here, to get some ideas for possible implementation. The major problem I see is characters vs. actual words on the page, as markup will create lots of characters in the box but not necessarily a too-long post. I want to state again that long posts are not necessarily bad, in fact some of the best discussions are generated by very long posts. The post in question, however, took up... [more]

Another vote for some kind of user moderating system.
The golden days are gone, there are a lot more people here now than there used to be, and its only going to get worse. Matt cannot and should not have to keep up with all the moderation here, and whatshername's moderation priveleges have met with (at best) mixed reviews.

I think a system where interesting previous threads were "featured" would be awesome and fix the despair of posting to a thread you know nobody will ever read again. Except when someone reposts it because they think it is interesting and needs to be discussed again.

What about some kind of a karma/moderating system? I remember hearing that a redesign is in the works, and wouldn't that be the best time to implement something like this? I am honestly amazed at how civil metafilter is, its like a secret oasis of serenity in the interdesert. I think as the size grows however, it seems reasonable to hand over some level of control to the userbase that is the lifeblood of this site.
I've got nothing but respect for Matt, but shouldn't he get a... [more]

I agree with scarabic here. While it would certainly be nice if nobody ever posted bad comments (or FPPs) we can't rely on that to happen.
Right now we have a Self-Proclaimed Monarchy
It seems logical that as this site grows, power may need to be redistributed to maintain law & order. I noticed Matt added another person to moderate recently, mostly in the AskMe section and it seems to have made a noticeable change already.... [more]
