Can anyone recommend a good travel agent in Toronto specializing in travel to Australia? (Someone with access to cheap flights is particularly valuable.)

I'm looking for recommendations for a good tailor around Queen and Spadina in Toronto. Nothing fancy - I just need some dress pants hemmed - but recommendations any places you personally know to be good/not too expensive would be appreciated.

TorontoFilter: I've just moved to an apartment on Queen, just west of Spadina. I'll be here for two months - until the end of June - and I'm really excited. What should I do, where should I eat and drink, to make the most of this neighbourhood?

I have to make a salad for a Passover seder with a lot of people. Can anyone think of a good recipe for a salad that is kosher, filling (I'm thinking maybe nuts or beans), easy to make in large quantities, and delicious? Thanks for your help!

My girlfriend's grandfather has just died. I would like to send some flowers to her mother and her grandmother, but in this kind of situation I never know what to say on the cards that sounds sincere without being too sentimental.

Crikey! I'm
going on exchange to Brisbane! I'd like a comprehensive reading list of books about Australian history, politics, culture and nature that will tell me everything I need to know about Australia. Pass the Foster's!

I'm going to Cuba for a week at an all-inclusive resort in Varadero, and I'd appreciate practical advice on how to prepare (should I buy pesos or U.S. dollars ahead of time or when I arrive?) and what to see on a day trip to Havana.

I'm thinking about going on an exchange program, and am not sure how I should rank my choices. Should I spend January to June in Brisbane, Australia or Amsterdam?

Why would a car perform significantly differently in two relatively similar crash tests? For instance, why would a rear passenger in the Honda Accord do better in side crash tests from
the IIHS than
the NHTSA? Is it simply because the NHTSA crash is 7mph faster?

How can I find parking in New York from Tuesday to Friday next week? Ideally it would be on Upper West Side Manhattan and not very expensive, but I could park farther afield.

Emergency Tech Support: Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac has suddenly become unable to save a document. It says "Too many files are open. Please close a window." Then "Saving the autorecovery file is postponed." Then "Too many files are open. Please close a window." Then "Word has insufficient memory. Would you like to save your document as Rescued Document X?" Nothing works. There's plenty of hard drive space. There are no other open documents. What's going on?

I'm looking for two brief historical accounts of the same event or events, to show how history can be distorted. Bonus points if the events relate to European encounters with indigenous peoples in the Americas.

Photo Booth won't open because it says my MacBook Pro's camera is in use by another application. It's really not. What can I do?

IsManhattanReallyThatExpensive? Filter: My girlfriend is going on exchange to Fordham Law School next fall. She is thinking of living in residence because of the convenience, but is somewhat stunned by the $6000 they want to charge her for 4 months (food not included). Is this reasonable? If it's not, where should she live?

Help! I've just reinstalled Windows XP, and now my computer doesn't recognize that I have a monitor in the Device Manager, which means I can't install drivers, which means my screen in currently in 4-bit colour mode. Which is really not going to sit well with my family if I can't fix it.

Dealing with Iran after Rumsfeld.
Seymour Hersh details the ongoing debate over how to deal with Iran's nuclear program. There's something here for everyone to worry about.

The Israel Lobby.
Writing the London Review of Books, John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago and Harvard University's Stephen Walt argue that American foreign policy in the Middle East has been diverted from the national interest by a powerful domestic Jewish lobby:
[T]he thrust of US policy in the region derives almost entirely from domestic politics, and especially the activities of the ‘Israel Lobby’. Other special-interest groups have managed to skew foreign policy, but no lobby has managed to divert it as far from what the national interest would suggest, while simultaneously convincing Americans that US interests and those of the other country – in this case, Israel – are essentially identical. The article is an edited version of a longer
working paper (pdf). While the authors focus on the potency of the Jewish lobby, including organizations such as
AIPAC and the
Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, they also point to the role of evangelical Christians who believe that Israel's existence is a necessary precondition of the Second Coming, a group whose importance has been remarked upon
elsewhere.
