The Ultimate Gaming Table.
While looking around the webernets to find a replacement for my living room table, I stumbled across
this. Breathtaking in scope and purpose; I salute this person's nerdly vision and dedication.

"Animal Vegetable Video
endeavors to create the world's largest collection of video footage that has been captured from the perspective of animals, plants, and the environments they inhabit." The
navigation is a little wacky (click on the animal to see a video, or on the habitat to see more videos), but anyone crazy enough to strap a camera on the back of a tarantula is okay by me.

The Two Things.
"For every subject, there are really only two things you really need to know. Everything else is the application of those two things, or just not important.”

ASSASSIN'S NIGHT:A DEEPER DARKNESS
is an animated graphic novel by Lawrence Van Abbema.
NSFW drawin's of nekkidness and violence. Looks like someone has way too much free time in study hall.

NewsFilter.
I'm a sucker for
treemap applications. This one is pretty neat - it gives you a good visual overview of the days' news, with a handful of filtering options, and live updating. I've had this running full-screen on a second monitor all day, and I'm digging it.

Worldbuilder
(no relation to the old
Mac adventure game toolkit) is an excellent way to start off the week by completely crippling productivity. I've played many games from
these guys before, and they're always great. I envy the independent game designer that gets to work with
Lego so often.
Via GTA.

Best cover letters, ever.

Lightspeed
is a fun little shareware game that I stumbled across today. It's one of those "bounce stuff off mirrors to light up stuff" puzzle games, but with nice graphics, and additional features like a level editor and such.
Warning: windows only download, shareware fee to unlock many levels and features.

Too Tough To Die.
As of Sunday afternoon, the corner of Second Street and Bowery in New York City is now known as Joey Ramone Place. I lived about 200 steps from there a while ago - now I've got a good excuse to go back for a visit.

Alhamdullah.
"I do say that freedom is the Almighty's gift to every person," the president replied. "I also condition it by saying freedom is not America's gift to the world. It's much greater than that, of course. And I believe we worship the same god." Apparently, this is causing no small amount of controversy in the Christian God-believing circles. I was always under the impression that it was commonly accepted that
Jews,
Christians, and
Muslims were all working for the same
Guy. So, Bush finally says something that's not completely stupid, and he gets all kind of
hell for it. Great.

Search stock photos by color scheme.
I generally hate (hate hate hate) that obnoxious stock photography that shows up everywhere, but this is actually kind of cool. Pick a color, and find pictures that match
your site. I'd love to see this kind of tool hooked up to more personal photo galleries.

Human chess on a city-block scale.
Giant chess games, played by international masters, using humans as pieces and city blocks as the board squares. Another game is in the works for New York next year, and the organizer is preparing to hold a similar game in San Francisco next month.
Plus, bonus stories from the front line: "Black Queen's Bishop gets call on cell phone, ordering him to move South. We note that the Black Queen has apparently moved from her position at c7. We appear to be on the attack! I eagerly await my own orders to move."

Unnanounced art in Home Depot.
Artist Stefanie Nagorka has created sculptures in ten states in the last year, and aims to bring her work to Home Depots in all fifty in the coming 18 months. She uses materials, mainly concrete slabs and bricks, from the stores,
assembles the sculptures in the aisle, snaps a picture for herself, and leave the rest there for customers to enjoy or puzzle over - and for the employees to disassemble and re-stock. I think I like it.

Bush signs a bill into law
that very few people will have anything bad to say about. Most of those who would oppose the new law can't vote, anyway, being members of predatory prison gangs, so I think we're pretty much good on
this one.

After Life
is a gorgeous little demonstration of what can be done when you combine a talented photographer with some (relatively) subtle Flash effects. Summer is my favorite, with the grass that blows as you brush by it.

Starbucks sucks!
' The culprits went as far as to stick "closed" and "for lease" signs and notices on the stores -- using bogus Starbucks Corp. letterhead -- announcing that "thousands of retail locations worldwide" were closing, and the Seattle- based company was "making room for local coffee bars." ' I'd be lying if I claimed that I've never fantasized about doing something like this. If nothing else, admire the organizational skills required to pull this off.

Bill and Liz
sit down on a sidewalk in New York City, and put up a sign that asks people to
talk to them. No catch, no trick, just conversation. They do this full time, up to 14 hours a day, every day.

Pet-a-potty.
Want to let your dog experience the thrill of doing their business on nature's own newspaper, but are scared that a great big eagle might swoop down and snatch poor Speckles away from you? Problem solved! Here's a nice square patch of grass! In a box! On wheels! No kidding!
Sometimes, I think it's not the pets that are the ones that need to be spayed and neutered...

Which 2004 U.S. presidential candidate are you?
Think you know which candidate best aligns with your political ideals? You may be surprised. Me, I got 100% for
Howard Dean, who I'd never heard of before. I don't really believe that anyone sharing my political leanings is going to get anywhere near the White House, but it's nice to know that there's someone out there for me...
(ps. Posted
before, but I think that three years is a good in-between time, and it's about that time again.)

R.I.P., Colonel Walter E. Kurtz 1925 - 2003.
"In the post-Sept 11th security environment, fearless men like Tony 'Poe' are what America needs to combat and counter terrorism and the new unconventional threat that America faces from abroad in exotic and uncharted lands."

Picky, picky, picky.
What a great place to quibble over the fine points of English usage, such as
where commas go, or the proper way to use the phrase
"a lot of". Focus all that pre-war nervous energy into refining your speech and writing, maybe?
