That's one thing I believe is missing from modern high-tech rides, this kind of uber-hackability. You take something like a Tin Lizzie, Deux Cheveaux, an air-cooled Bug, Land Rover, Jeep, etc., and the potential exists for anyone with some relatively simple tools and a big enough stash of ingenuity to convert it into almost anything motorised. Try that with your H2s or your Priuses or what have you...

Don't forget the importance of your picking hand, and muting with your fretting hand, in terms of articulation and making a lick "sing." Try playing the same riff with the same fingering over and over, just using your picking hand to emphasize different notes, mute others, etc., and when you think you've exhausted that, try adding things like grace notes, vibrato, and such in different places with your fretting hand. I've seen plenty of classic car auctions with little or no bids because of low seller feedback. If it were mine, I'd look for relevant enthusiast forums with classified ad sections--Pantera International Car Club comes up first on Google--and list it there. Ubuntu's the easiest Linux install I've ever done, but it might be a little much for a 10-year-old machine, maybe. I'd try XUbuntu, it's basically the same as regular Ubuntu but with a lightweight window manager rather than the sorta RAM-hungry Gnome environment regular Ubuntu comes with.

4 gigs of HD space seems pretty small these days, though. Assuming you're on a really low budget, would you be able to score a bigger HD from a friend who's upgrading or something?... [more]

I've heard other people make that same point about SotC, Malor. I never finished the game myself--I gave up on the giant turtle with the geysers--but a couple of the earlier battles, the ones against the bird/pterodactyl and eel/sea serpent creatures, made me question exactly why I was supposed to be killing them. I mean, they never even attack you until provoked. I think that might have been part of the point, though.
