double take
I think this thread will be more interesting if we assume that all the people with doubled flickr accounts are actually sockpuppets for each other.
Call me old-fashioned if you will, sir, but marrying one's own sockpuppet is nothing short of perverse.

This probably means the video chipset on your computer is succumbing to heat overload, which could mean complete motherboard failure as soon as this evening.
However, if you forward this complaint to ten other community weblogs before sundown, you will find true love!

It's pretty easy to find. Take the C-Train to Centre St. or 1st St SW, head south down 1st st SW 'till you hit 12th Avenue. Hang a right and look out for the place that looks like an old house next to Soda. Kinda like this.

Seriously, though, I can't see too many people paying five bucks just to drop dopey one-word YouTube-style lame comments. Jessamyn makes a good point, though, pointing out why something is the suckiest suck that ever did suck makes for better actual conversation.

The Great Rewrite?
Bah! You kids have it easy! Why in my day, we had to walk eighteen miles in the snow to get the Best of the Web, battling JRun errors the whole time, uphill both ways. And there weren't no AJAX, neither, if'n ya wanted a web app you had to refresh the page for each little tiny bit of data. By hand. With a cast iron sledgehammer and a wooden bucket to hold the bits in. And we liked it, by gum! Built character, it did.

Okay, like, if you buy regular bacon, it's like a big long strip, eh? But if you buy back bacon, it's all round, eh? But like Americans call back bacon "Canadian bacon" even though we don't really eat it all that much, eh? What a buncha hosers!

So this is like the "merge bug" feature in a bug tracking system?
That totally melts my mind. MetaFilter is like a bug tracking system for the web. A few more fields, a reporting tool and we're there.
I can see it now:
Bug #212414
Symptoms: Current hit movie in 30 seconds, with bunnies.
Repeatability: 100%
Status: CLOSED
Comments: It's not a bug, it's a misfeature.

Metafilter + bacon = delicious/WTF?
While we're (sort of) on the subject, would it be possible to make the fmpub adds the last thing to load, rather than loading before the page content, and then position them into place with CSS or something? It kinda sucks having the page stop loading for half a minute when fmpub's servers are swamped or what-not, and encouraging people to use AdBlock or the like to deal with this seems like the Wrong Thing.

You know, I'd be tempted to agree, but a video that was made in '79, won an Academy Award for technical achievement and still hasn't been commercially released due to legal shenanigans is more than your standard bar-lowering YouTube post.

It is possible to create a Google account and grant it view-only access to certain domains in your Google Analytics account. I don't know what the rules and technical restrictions are on sharing a Google account around like that, though.
I'd be surprised if they have a security policy designed around this kind of workaround. It wouldn't look too good when "mefistats" starts a blog consisting of Goatse images, or starts using gmail to send spam or something...

In making up an art centered post,...
i.e. you shouldn't be posting about Topic X because Topic X is interesting and cool, you should be posting about Topic X because you have found one or more interesting and cool websites about Topic X. If you want to post about Topic X and can only find average or crappy websites, then you need to either keep looking or choose another topic.

Sirs, I can but beg of you that whilst a news-posting of the forthcoming coronation of Her Majesty, Queen Victoria might seem to the uncouth mind to be within the spirit of the age, it must inevitably lead to a discussion most Boorish and Unwelcome in these genteel pages of the Royal Society of Meta-Filterers, and hence will not end well.

Well, I intend to call it "A virtual place, upon which are posted digitized excerpts of the divers musical talents proffered by denizens of Mr. Matthew Haughey's muchly-celebrated 'community web-log', the Meta-Filter."
The scurrilous rapscallions among you who would cut down the many syllables of His Majesty's English toungue like so many rabid dogs ought perhaps to do the same.
