Music post: Psychedelic Unknowns
It's like the theme to a long-lost Sid & Marty Kroft show.

Jad Fair - drums, samples
Daniel Johnston - piano

The second song I've posted here from the Lucky Sperms sessions of spring 1999. I wrote this song to impress Jad. I though it sounded like Half Japanese at the time, though now I don't think it does. He seemed to like it a lot whatever the case. It's about the meanest girl that I'd ever met up until that point, a beautiful liar named Cate. I stole the title from a Hong... [more]

(by the way, I don't sing like this anymore. At all.)

You know, upon further listening I think that either Jad or Dan was playing secondary guitar. I only remember playing as I sang and not overdubbing. Hmm. It probably only matters to me.

It isn't me on the DnD tracks, no. I tend to croon more these days if I sing at all.

Pieced together by Daniel and item

Where to begin...

For an interesting period of my life I held a friendship and musical collaboration with Daniel Johnston. This was recorded in the spring of 1999 in Daniel's parents garage (the 'studio' featured in The Devil and Daniel Johnston) under extreme amounts of duress. I had... [more]

Oh yeah... the song: a medley simply called 'Melody'. Daniel and I both picked out songs to rework. We actually played this live a few times. Audiences love it when you give them a game to play, this game being 'name that tune(less)'.

Music post: Street Medics Unite! (aka We Fight the Good Fight)
Yes, we dig DEVO. Please try to refrain from comparing us to them, though, as it's in my humble opinion that we really don't sound much like them.

We use synths. We're punky nerds. It's pretty catchy stuff, and being compared to DEVO is a huge compliment, but listen to this and then listen to one of DEVO's more synth-oriented records (post Duty Now For the Future). If you want to compare us to anyone, try Negativland.

oh, and nylon: sorry I just mentioned that it's a split w/ a roman scandal (a band containing 2/3's of Denim & Diamonds) and didn't mention the other 2 bands.

The really, really bad thing is that - for reasons I'd rather not discuss here - I don't even have a goddamn copy of that box set. I remember liking yr band, though. You should post some tracks here, if you haven't already.

I love the Magnetic Fields/Stephen Merritt take on the Milkmen. I think Joe Jack sent me a copy of this CD when it came out.
