Wanted: One AC adapter

I recently lost the power adapter for my olde tyme Creative Nomad Zen NX. I'd like to just drive down to RadioShack and get a replacement, but I'm not sure what I need. The Nomad wants 5V, but it looks like RadioShack's adapters skip from 4.5V to 6V. Will I kill my player if I use one of those options?

Vista is broken

About an hour ago, I told Windows Vista to hibernate. Now, when I try to boot, I get a "Windows failed to start" error. Apparently, winload.exe is either missing or corrupt. According to the error, I need to use my installation disc to fix this. Unfortunately, I won't have access to a Vista install disc until next week. Is there *any* other way to fix this, or am I just screwed?

Remote access to grandparents' computer

A few months ago my grandparents bought a computer. To help them fix problems without us driving all the way out to their house every time something comes up, I'd like to install something that would allow us to view their screen and control their mouse and keyboard from home. Both systems involved would be running Windows XP Home Edition, and we both have broadband connections. What is the best, preferably free, way to do this?

Envelope blues

I have an envelope that's about 10"x13". Inside, I have maybe 15 pages of college application materials. And I have $3.90 in stamps. How the hell do I know how much postage I need for this thing? Should I try to figure it out myself, or should I just take it to the post office and have them figure it out?

Good sunscreen?

Reading Wikipedia gives one the impression that most sunscreens and sunscreen ingredients are ineffective and/or give you skin cancer or other sickness. What's a good sunscreen brand I should purchase that will both protect me from the sun and also not kill me?

What percentage of students who take a "break" from college end up returning? For example, say someone plans to take a year off to work. How often do people actually return to college after that?

How can I send music over my network?

I have thousands of songs on my laptop. Unfortunately, my laptop's speakers are terrible. My desktop, however, has a great set of speakers. I want to listen to music from my laptop on my desktop speakers, and I want to control the audio from my laptop. The desktop and laptop can connect to each other over my network. Is there anything out there that will let me do this easily and at no cost?

How do I replace my guitar strings?

Someone bought me an electric guitar two years ago. Maybe one. I never played it. When I hauled it out of the closet yesterday and took it out of the bag, I discovered that one of the strings was off; it is no longer attached at either end. How unfortunate. Especially for someone who has no idea what to do. How do I fix the guitar?

Looking for a secure PHP email script

I need a PHP-based email script that will take the name, email, subject, and message form fields I pass to it and send them to me with the name and email used as the "From" field in the message header. I also need to put a value in the header that identifies the sender's IP address. And, of course, I need a script that is not vulnerable to header injection spam attacks. Any recommendations?

Creating a searchable document database

I want to create an online document database containing text, video, audio, and image files searchable by category (Such as War > Vietnam > Napalm Footage), keywords (Such as grainy, color, etc.) and, for text, a full-text search. And I'd like to be able to define a number of other custom fields (such as Source, Date, etc.), with the ability to search as many or as few fields as I'd like. And I would also like the ability to browse by category. Anything out there that meets these standards, preferably using PHP and MySQL?

I cannot access lclark.edu or cihost.com. It just doesn't work. Other websites work fine, my hosts file contains nothing that would cause this, I have no blocking software, I have no spyware, and these two web sites are not down.

MLA Citation Filter: The information I'm citing...

MLA Citation Filter: The information I'm citing was found on a website. However, the person who made the website did not create this information. The information I'm putting into my paper is all from articles cited on the website; it's either a direct quote from the journal article that I copied and pasted from the website, or it's factual information from the articles that is presented and cited by the website author.

In my paper's bibliography, how should I cite the copied portions of journal articles? How should I cite the facts from the journal articles that are presented by the website's author? Do I cite the journal article, or the website?

Which Evil Dead DVD should I get? Over at Amazon,...

Which Evil Dead DVD should I get? Over at Amazon, I can find four different versions. The biggest difference seems to be that some have a 1.33:1 aspect ratio and others have 1.85:1. And according to a review under this copy, the movie was in fact shot in 1.33:1 and Anchor Bay slapped bars over the top and bottom to make a "widescreen" version. Is that true? If so, I want a 1.33:1 copy. But which one should I get?

Say No To Usurpers

Welcome to the INFORMATION-CYBER-WAR. Tired of the same old "song & dance" from the "Democrats" & "Republicans"? Glen Glidden knows how you feel. That's why he started "the most dangerous show on public access cable television." He takes on City Hall, revealing that most elected officials in Minnesota suburbs are usurpers, illegally occupying their position. He exposes the truth about November's election: it's Clown vs. Clown. And he's a Rammstein fan (why not?). Take a look, but remember: the truth may hurt.
